W. R. Meadows products are written into concrete, waterproofing and paving specifications by name and by standard. Start with the stage of the work and the standard the specification cites, then confirm the carrier, VOC limit and substrate condition on the current data sheet.

Coverage, drying time and VOC content depend on the exact product, version and container. Check the current W. R. Meadows data sheet before substituting one compound for another, and do not mix water-based and solvent-based compounds.
Field planning
Plan the work by stage
Most W. R. Meadows orders cover one stage of a concrete job: forming and curing the pour, protecting the hardened surface, or keeping water out of the structure. Each stage has its own compatibility questions.
Cure only, or cure and seal
A curing compound holds mix water in fresh concrete; a cure-and-seal also leaves a protective acrylic film. Where paint, flooring or a coating will follow, confirm the compound with that manufacturer first. 1100 and 1150-CLEAR are made to dissipate after the cure.
White-pigmented Type 2 compounds such as Sealtight 1600 White reflect heat and are common on paving and airfield work. If another compound is already on the slab, remove it before applying a different one.
VOC rules and carrier
VOCOMP compounds are water-based acrylics with soap-and-water cleanup while wet. CS-309 and TIAH are acrylics in solvent carriers, and OTC versions are formulated for the tighter limits in Ozone Transport Commission states.
Check the air district before ordering any solvent-based sealer. DECRA-SEAL and EXPO-GLOSS OTC give a deeper gloss on decorative and exposed aggregate work.
Waterproofing as a system
MEL-ROL is a self-adhering sheet applied over primed, cured concrete with MEL-PRIME. PRECON is placed before the pour, and the concrete cast against it bonds to it mechanically as it cures. Terminations, inside corners and penetrations need their own details.
Order the full system with the membrane: MEL-PRIME or MEL-PRIME W/B, POINTING MASTIC, TERMINATION BAR, DETAIL FABRIC, NEOPRENE FLASHING MEMBRANE and PROTECTION COURSE, PC2R or VIBRAFLEX before backfill or paving.
Joints and under the slab
PERMINATOR is a polyolefin underslab barrier rated to ASTM E1745 Class A, B and C; the 15 mil sheet also meets the ACI 302.2R suggestion of 0.01 perms for moisture-sensitive flooring. PERMINATOR EVOH adds a gas barrier layer for radon, methane and hydrocarbon vapors.
At static construction joints, WATERSTOP EC PLUS combines bentonite and hydrophilic rubber and needs 2 inches of concrete cover all around. It is not an expansion joint product.

Match the cited standard
Curing compounds are specified by ASTM C309 or C1315 type and class, vapor barriers by ASTM E1745 class, epoxies by ASTM C881 type, grade and class, and bonding agents by ASTM C1059 type. Confirm the version as well: OTC, W/B, LOW TEMP and WINTER-GRADE products are different formulations.
Calculate the order
Liquids are ordered by area divided by the published coverage rate for that surface and finish. Membranes and vapor barriers are ordered by area plus laps and detail work, and backer rod by lineal feet per carton for each rod diameter. Round up to whole pails, drums, rolls and cartons.
Assemble the submittal
List the product, version, container size and part number. Gather the current data sheet, SDS, VOC statement and any DOT approval the project requires. Drums and some bulk units are priced on request.

What does W. R. Meadows make?

What is the difference between VOCOMP-20, VOCOMP-25 and VOCOMP-30?
All three are water-based acrylic curing and sealing compounds that dry clear. VOCOMP-20 meets ASTM C309 Type 1, Class A and B. VOCOMP-25 also meets ASTM C1315 Type I, Class A, and VOCOMP-30 is a 30 percent solids version that meets C1315 Type I, Class A and C309 Type 1, Class B. Choose by the standard the specification cites.
Is CS-309 the same as VOCOMP?
No. CS-309 compounds are acrylic cure-and-seals in quick-evaporating solvents; VOCOMP compounds are water-based. CS-309-25 and CS-309/30 meet ASTM C309 and C1315, and CS-309-25 OTC uses VOC-exempt solvents to meet Ozone Transport Commission limits.
Which PERMINATOR vapor barrier do I need?
PERMINATOR 10 mil and 15 mil meet ASTM E1745 Class A, B and C. Use the 15 mil sheet where moisture-sensitive flooring calls for 0.01 perms under ACI 302.2R, and PERMINATOR EVOH where radon, methane or hydrocarbon vapors must be kept out of the building. Tape seams with the matching PERMINATOR or EVOH tape.
What is the difference between KOOL-ROD and CERA-ROD?
KOOL-ROD is a closed-cell polyethylene backer rod for cold-applied sealants, and KOOL-ROD SOFT is a softer version that fits a wider range of joint widths. CERA-ROD is cross-linked polyethylene that keeps its shape and does not gas under hot-applied pavement sealants.
When is PRECON used instead of MEL-ROL?
PRECON is a pre-applied membrane placed under slabs or against shoring before the concrete is poured, so the new concrete bonds to it mechanically. MEL-ROL is a self-adhering sheet applied to primed, cured concrete. The specification and the access to the wall face usually decide which one is used.
