Choose a Greenstreak waterstop by joint condition

Waterstop selection follows the joint, not the catalog. Start from the joint type and the movement it is designed to accommodate, then confirm hydrostatic head, exposure, profile width and thickness, and how the waterstop will be positioned and spliced. The project specification and the current product data sheet control.

Joint condition or product typeWhat to confirmExamples in this category
Movement joints, cast into new concreteExpansion, contraction and isolation joints where the waterstop must accommodate movement. Ribbed profiles with a centerbulb are the most versatile and best sealing shape; larger centerbulbs accommodate greater movement. Confirm width, thickness, split formwork and how the profile will be tied off.PVC 701, PVC 705, PVC 709, PVC 735
Nonmoving joints, cast into new concreteJoints with reinforcement continuous through them and negligible movement. Flat profiles without a centerbulb work here. Dumbbell shapes are an alternate profile; ribbed shapes give better sealing characteristics. Confirm that the specification does not require a centerbulb.PVC 679 flat ribbed, PVC 741 dumbbell, PVC 746 dumbbell
Second-pour construction joints, strip appliedHydrophilic and mastic strips are applied to the hardened first pour before the second placement, so split formwork is not required. Confirm the joint is nonmoving, the surface is clean and dry, the correct primer or adhesive is included, and that the strip is protected from water until the next pour.Hydrotite CJ-1020-2K, Hydrotite CJ-0725-3K-ADH, Swellstop, Lockstop
Fully bonded construction jointsA bonded waterbar is embedded in the fresh pour so water cannot travel laterally along the joint. This is a flexible polyolefin product, not PVC, and it splices by thermal welding or approved tape rather than a heat iron. Confirm embedment depth and splice method.Waterbar FB-125
New concrete against an existing structureRetrofit systems anchor a PVC profile to the existing concrete face with stainless batten bars and anchor bolts, bedded in structural epoxy gel. Confirm profile width, required head pressure, anchor spacing, substrate condition and that the epoxy gel is on the order.655 retrofit, 581 retrofit, 609 retrofit, 667 retrofit
Expansion board caps and paving jointsModified PVC caps fit over expansion board to form a continuous diaphragm that keeps fluid and debris out of the joint. Confirm the board thickness, the joint width and whether the new-pour or retrofit style applies.G-Seal 610, G-Seal 624, G-Seal 628 retrofit, G-Seal 632 retrofit
Slab-on-ground load transferDowel sleeve systems align round dowels across construction joints in slabs on ground. Confirm slab depth, dowel diameter and length, on-center spacing and the governing ACI guidance before ordering sleeves and bases.Speed Dowel Plus 3/4 in, Speed Dowel Plus 1 in, Speed Dowel #4, Speed Dowel #5

Sika Greenstreak concrete form liners

Form liners cast an architectural finish directly into the concrete face: brick, stone, board, rib and fractured rib textures, and custom patterns. Sika Greenstreak form liners are not a stocked item on this page. We quote them against your pattern, grade and square footage and ship them direct from the manufacturer, so send the elevation, the finish and the number of pours.

GradeMaterialDesigned reusesTypical application
Uni-CastRigid polymer (HIPS)Single useTilt-up panels and cast-in-place work that needs cut-outs for doors, windows and utilities.
Multi-CastRigid polymer (ABS)2 to 10 usesPrimarily cast-in-place, where the same pattern repeats a handful of times.
Dura-CastRigid polymer (ABS)10 to 25 usesCast-in-place and gang forming.
Ultra-CastElastomeric40 to 100+ usesHigh-reuse forming programs and deeper, more complex reliefs.

Reuse counts are Sika's published design values under normal job site conditions. Not every pattern is offered in every grade and custom patterns can be produced, so confirm pattern, grade, sheet size and lead time at quotation. Rigid polymer liners are not recommended for precast on heated beds, and Type III or accelerated mixes generate enough cure heat to damage them. Plan rustication strips where liner joints do not blend with the pattern, use a form release, and budget the pre-construction mock-up that the finish warranty depends on. ACI 303R covers cast-in-place architectural concrete practice. Request a form liner quote.

Field planning

Plan the waterstop installation

A waterstop works only if it is positioned correctly, fully encased and continuous through every corner and intersection. Use the manufacturer installation guide together with the project specification and the concrete placement sequence.

Cast-in PVC profiles

PVC waterstop is installed before concrete placement so it can be held in position and consolidated around. Split formwork is generally required for slab-to-slab, slab-to-wall and wall-to-wall joints using ribbed or dumbbell profiles. Tie the outer edge off to adjacent reinforcing steel to prevent deflection or misalignment during the pour.

Straight runs are butt spliced in the field with a thermostatically controlled heating iron. Sika recommends that corners, tees and crosses be supplied as factory-fabricated fittings, leaving only straight butt splices for the field. Order fittings with the roll footage instead of after the fact.

Hydrophilic and mastic strips

Hydrotite is a non-bentonite modified chloroprene rubber profile that expands when it contacts water, forming a compression seal in joints of limited movement. It carries an expansion delay coating so the concrete can cure before expansion begins, and it is installed after the first form is stripped and as close as practical to the second placement.

Protect the strip from rain and ground water before the second pour; material that has already swelled must be removed and spliced out. Swellstop is a butyl polymer swellable tape used with Swellstop Primer Adhesive. Lockstop is a mastic strip that seals without swelling. All three are intended for nonmoving joints.

Retrofit into existing concrete

Retrofit systems seal the joint where new concrete is placed against an existing structure. The profile is anchored to the prepared concrete face with stainless steel batten bars and anchor bolts and bedded in structural epoxy gel, so the surface must be sound, clean and reasonably flat.

Profiles run from compact 3 in sections to a 9 in heavy-duty section for higher head. Pieces are supplied in 10 ft lengths, so plan the run, the laps and the anchor layout before ordering, and confirm the epoxy gel is included in the package or added to the order.

Load transfer and curing

Speed Dowel and Speed Dowel Plus sleeves align smooth round dowels across slab-on-ground construction joints, allowing the joint to open without lateral restraint. Sleeve size follows the dowel diameter and slab depth; Sika publishes selection and spacing guidance referencing ACI 302, ACI 330 and ACI 360. Sleeves and bases are separate items on some systems.

UltraCure single-use wet curing blankets hold water against the slab for the specified cure period, 7 days for NCF and 14 days for DOT, and meet ASTM C171 and AASHTO M171. Calculate coverage from the roll size and the slab area including edges.

Before you order

Specifications, footage and submittals

Use the project documents and the current Sika data to confirm the profile, the quantity and the paperwork the job needs.

Match the specified profile

Sika Greenstreak PVC waterstop is manufactured to meet the physical property requirements of Corps of Engineers specification CRD-C 572-74, and PVC profiles are certified to NSF/ANSI 61 for potable water contact. Check the profile number, width and thickness against the drawings rather than substituting on width alone.

Calculate footage and fittings

Measure the total joint length, add laps and waste, then divide by the roll length of the exact item, which is 50 ft or 100 ft depending on the profile. Count every corner, tee and cross separately and order them as fabricated fittings. Retrofit systems and G-Seal caps ship in fixed piece and coil lengths.

Assemble the submittal

Identify the manufacturer, profile number, size and SKU. Collect the current product data sheet, installation guide, SDS and the NSF listing or certificate of compliance if the structure holds potable water. Ask for technical help when a profile, limit or document is unclear.

Greenstreak waterstop questions

What is a PVC waterstop used for?

A PVC waterstop is a flexible profile set into concrete across or along a joint. Once in place it forms a watertight diaphragm that keeps liquid from passing through the joint. Typical structures include water and wastewater treatment plants, reservoirs and aqueducts, locks and dams, tanks and containment structures, tunnels and culverts, foundations, retaining walls and slabs on ground.

Ribbed centerbulb, dumbbell or flat: which profile do I need?

The joint decides the profile. Ribbed with centerbulb is the most versatile and best sealing shape and is used at movement joints, where the centerbulb takes lateral, transverse and shear movement; larger centerbulbs take more movement. Dumbbell with centerbulb is an alternate profile for those same conditions, with less sealing capability. Flat profiles without a centerbulb suit nonmoving joints where reinforcement is continuous through the joint. Confirm against the specification before substituting.

How does a hydrophilic waterstop such as Hydrotite work?

Hydrotite is a non-bentonite, modified chloroprene rubber strip. On contact with water it expands and creates a compression seal inside a joint of limited movement. An expansion delay coating lets the concrete cure before expansion begins, and Sika publishes a resistance of up to a 150 ft head for most CJ profiles. The strip is applied to the hardened first pour rather than cast into it, so no split formwork is needed.

Hydrotite, Swellstop or Lockstop: what is the difference?

All three are strip-applied products for nonmoving joints; the seal mechanism is what differs. Hydrotite is a co-extruded hydrophilic and chloroprene rubber profile that swells against the joint. Swellstop is a butyl polymer swellable sealant tape used with Swellstop Primer Adhesive. Lockstop is a mastic waterstop that seals without swelling, so it places no expansive pressure inside the joint, and is used with Lockstop Primer. Choose from joint condition, substrate and what the specification allows.

Can a waterstop be added where new concrete meets an existing structure?

Yes. That is the purpose of the retrofit systems. A PVC retrofit profile is anchored to the prepared face of the existing concrete with stainless steel batten bars and anchor bolts and bedded in structural epoxy gel, then the new concrete is placed against it. Profiles run from a compact 3 in section up to a 9 in heavy-duty section, and pieces ship in 10 ft lengths.

Are Sika Greenstreak waterstops approved for potable water?

Sika Greenstreak PVC waterstop is suitable for potable water contact and meets NSF/ANSI Standard 61, and all Hydrotite CJ profiles are NSF/ANSI 61 approved. On a potable water structure, confirm the specific profile against the current data sheet and request the NSF listing or certificate of compliance for the submittal.

How are PVC waterstop splices and intersections made?

Straight lengths are butt spliced in the field with a thermostatically controlled heating iron. Field-welded mitered intersections are hard to execute correctly, so Sika recommends that corners, tees and crosses come as factory-fabricated fittings, leaving only straight butt splices for the field. Count the fittings when you take off the joint footage.

What is a concrete form liner?

A form liner is a patterned sheet fixed to the inside face of the formwork so the texture transfers into the wet concrete. After the concrete cures and the form is stripped, the pattern remains in the finished face. It is the economical way to get an architectural finish on retaining walls, bridge structures, tilt-up panels and precast without applied cladding.

Which Sika Greenstreak form liner grade do I need?

Grade follows the number of pours, not the pattern. Uni-Cast is a single-use rigid polymer liner suited to tilt-up and cast-in-place work needing cut-outs. Multi-Cast is rigid polymer designed for 2 to 10 uses, Dura-Cast for 10 to 25, and Ultra-Cast is an elastomeric liner designed for 40 to 100 or more uses. On some jobs more than one grade is the cheaper answer; in that case the liners may need shimming for thickness differences between grades.

Do you supply Sika Greenstreak form liners?

Yes, by quotation rather than from the shelf. Form liners are ordered to the pattern, grade and square footage of the job and shipped direct from the manufacturer, so they do not appear in the product grid above. Send the elevation, the finish you want and the number of pours and we will price the liner, the release agent and any rustication strips together.

What does a Speed Dowel system do?

It is a sleeve system that holds a smooth round dowel in correct alignment across a construction joint in a slab on ground. The joint can transfer load and still open as the slab shrinks. Speed Dowel Plus adds integral fins that remove lateral restraint between slabs. Sleeve selection follows the dowel diameter and slab depth, with spacing guidance referencing ACI 302, ACI 330 and ACI 360.
