WR Meadows PENTREAT 244-40 W/B 5 Gallon Pail

WR Meadows PENTREAT 244-40 W/B (part of the pentreat line) is a water-based, 40% active content silane penetrating sealer. It is a hydrophobic, impregnating sealer that helps prevent chloride-induced corrosion of rebar, scaling, spalling and freeze-thaw damage. It chemically bonds to the substrate, stopping liquid absorption while allowing vapor transmission, and leaves no residue. It is intended for horizontal, vertical, overhead, new and existing above-grade concrete and masonry on residential, commercial, industrial and municipal projects. Its VOC compliance list covers CARB, Arizona Maricopa County, Colorado AIM, OTC Phase I and II, Utah and U.S. EPA; SCAQMD is not listed.

Key Features

  • Water-based, 40% active content silane
  • Minimizes penetration of water and water-soluble salts
  • Chemically bonds to the substrate while allowing vapor transmission
  • Reduces spalling of concrete surfaces
  • Leaves no residue and needs no cleaning after application

Applications

  • Parking structures, ramps and traffic-bearing concrete
  • Bridge decks and piers, median barriers and marine structures
  • Stadiums, driveways, plazas, patios and walkways
  • Overhead and vertical above-grade concrete and masonry

Frequently Asked Questions

What is WR Meadows PENTREAT 244-40 W/B?
It is a water-based, 40% active content silane penetrating sealer. It helps prevent chloride-induced rebar corrosion, scaling, spalling and freeze-thaw damage on horizontal, vertical and overhead above-grade concrete and masonry.

How much does a 5 gallon pail of PENTREAT 244-40 W/B cover?
The data sheet gives approximately 125-250 sq ft/gal, so a 5 gallon pail covers about 625-1,250 sq ft. The rate depends on surface texture, porosity, condition and weather, so test an area first.

How is PENTREAT 244-40 W/B put down?
Use a low-pressure airless sprayer such as a Chapin 1949 at a 0.1 GPM spray rate. On horizontal surfaces, saturate in a single pass, leave wet 3-5 minutes, then brush or broom out pools and puddles. On vertical surfaces, put down two coats wet on wet. Allow at least three days for it to fully react before judging a test area.

Which VOC regulations does PENTREAT 244-40 W/B meet?
The data sheet lists a VOC content under 350 g/L and compliance with CARB, Arizona Maricopa County, Colorado AIM, OTC Phase I and II, Utah Department of Air Quality and U.S. EPA limits. SCAQMD is not listed, so check local rules in that district.

How soon can it go on new concrete?
For best results wait 28 days. It can go on as early as three days, but lower penetration is expected. Concrete moisture must not exceed 4% at the time of application, and the surface must be clean and free of curing compounds.

What are the limits on where it can be used?
It is not recommended below grade or under hydrostatic pressure, is not a waterproofing or vapor barrier, and will not block vapor through cracked or improperly repaired surfaces. Never let it contact bituminous products, and protect window panes and frames that will be painted. Work at 40-90 F and protect from rain for six hours, 12 preferred.
