Choose Simpson Strong-Tie by the connection you are making

Two decisions run through this assortment: how something new gets fastened to hardened concrete or masonry, and how an existing crack gets filled. Start from the base material, the load and the design basis, then confirm hole preparation, embedment, temperature and cure before ordering.

JobWhat to confirmProducts stocked
Adhesive anchoring and rebar dowelingThreaded rod and rebar into cracked or uncracked concrete. Confirm embedment, edge distance and spacing from the design, base-material temperature, hole-cleaning method and cure time. SET-3G is evaluated in ICC-ES ESR-4057 for cracked and uncracked concrete and for Seismic Design Categories A through F.SET-3G 22 oz, SET-3G 8.5 oz case, SET-3G 56 oz case
Screw anchors into concreteHole diameter and depth, installation torque, spacing and edge distance, and whether the fixture may need to come off again. Titen HD is a mechanical screw anchor for cracked and uncracked concrete under ICC-ES ESR-2713. Stocked in 1/4" through 3/4" diameters and 1-7/8" through 8" lengths.THD 3/8 x 3, THD 1/2 x 4, THD 3/4 x 5
Wedge anchors for permanent fixturesStrong-Bolt 2 is a torque-controlled expansion anchor for cracked and uncracked concrete under ICC-ES ESR-3037. Confirm embedment, fixture thickness, installation torque and hole depth below the fixture. The anchor stays in the hole, so plan for a through-bolted connection.STB2 1/2 x 4-1/4, STB2 5/8 x 5, STB2 3/4 x 6-1/4
Flush and overhead drop-in anchorsInternally threaded drop-ins take a rod or bolt after the anchor is set, which suits overhead hangers and flush slab work. These are displacement-controlled anchors: the plug has to be driven with the matching setting tool. Confirm rod thread, UNC or coil, and whether the lipped or standard body is required.DIAB 1/2, DIABL 3/8 lipped, DIAB 1/2 coil thread, DIAST setting tools
Light fastening into concrete and masonryPin-drive and split-drive anchors for furring, clips, conduit, brackets and signage where no code-listed capacity is required. Confirm the fixture thickness and the drilled hole depth; these are driven fasteners and are not a substitute for a designed anchor.Zinc Nailon 1/4 x 1-1/4, Zinc Nailon 1/4 x 1-1/2, CSD split-drive 1/4 x 3
Structural crack injectionEpoxy restores load transfer across a dormant crack. Select by crack width and substrate temperature: CI-SLV at 150 cP for the tightest cracks, CI-LV at 350 cP for hairline to 1/4", CI-LPL at 2,000 cP for hot weather to 110°F, CI-LV FS where a fast set is needed, and gel-viscosity CI-GV for 3/32"–1/4" cracks and vertical, overhead or underwater work.CI-LV, CI-SLV, CI-LPL, CI-LV FS, CI-GV; 3-gallon kits: CI-LV, CI-GV, CI-SLV, CI-LPL, CI-LV FS
Leak sealing and injection accessoriesA crack that is seeping or leaking needs a resin that reacts with water rather than a structural epoxy. Crack-Pac Flex-H2O is a non-structural polyurethane seal for cracks 1/32"–1/4" in concrete or solid masonry. Every injection also needs ports and a paste-over: CIP-F peels off, CIP-LO is the rigid version.Crack-Pac Flex-H2O, Flex-H2O kit, Crack-Pac epoxy, EIP-EZAK ports, CIP-F, CIP-LO

Published viscosities, crack widths, pot lives and cure times apply at the temperature and test conditions stated on the data sheet. Anchor capacities come from the current ICC-ES report and the engineer’s design, not from the catalog description. Confirm both before substituting a product into a specified detail.

Field planning

Plan the anchor or the repair

Most field problems with these products come from four sources: the wrong assumption about cracked concrete, a hole that was not cleaned, a resin chosen for the wrong crack, and water nobody planned for.

Cracked concrete and the code report

Concrete in tension is designed as cracked unless analysis shows otherwise, and that assumption decides which anchors are eligible. SET-3G, Titen HD and Strong-Bolt 2 all carry cracked-concrete evaluations under ESR-4057, ESR-2713 and ESR-3037 respectively.

Design values belong to the report and the engineer, not to a product listing. Simpson publishes the reports and its Anchor Designer software for the calculation; we can send the current report with a quote.

Hole preparation and orientation

Adhesive anchor capacity is lost in the hole, not in the cartridge. Follow the drilling and cleaning method in the report for the bit type used, and use the retaining caps, piston plugs or adhesive tubing the report calls for on horizontal and overhead installations.

Temperature affects both ends of the job. Condition cartridges before use in cold weather, dispense and discard the first material through a new nozzle, and allow the longer cure time the report gives for water-saturated concrete.

Match injection viscosity to the crack

Crack width and temperature drive the choice. CI-SLV at 150 cP penetrates the tightest cracks, CI-LV at 350 cP covers hairline through 1/4", and CI-LPL at 2,000 cP is formulated for substrate temperatures up to 110°F where a standard epoxy would gel too quickly.

Gel-viscosity CI-GV is the one that stays where it is put, which is what vertical and overhead sealing needs, and it is also published for underwater pressure injection. Epoxy injection assumes a dormant crack; a crack that is still moving needs a different repair.

Water changes the product

Structural epoxy bonds the crack faces back together. A crack that is actively seeping needs a polyurethane that reacts with the water instead: Crack-Pac Flex-H2O expands on contact with moisture, begins reacting within about a minute, and produces a flexible, non-structural seal.

Plan the sequence rather than the product alone. Stopping the water and restoring structural continuity are two separate objectives, and the data sheet for each product states which one it performs.

Before you order

Specifications, quantities and accessories

Use the project documents and the current manufacturer data to confirm what the installation actually requires before the order is placed.

Confirm the design basis

Identify the anchor schedule, the embedment and the report the design relies on. Where a substitution is proposed, the replacement has to be evaluated for the same condition, cracked or uncracked, and approved by the engineer of record.

Estimate quantities honestly

Adhesive volume comes from hole diameter, depth and count; injection volume from crack width, member thickness and length. Add a practical allowance for waste and for the material discarded at each nozzle change.

Order the accessories together

A cartridge is not a complete kit. Check the dispensing tool for that cartridge size, mixing nozzles and extensions, hole-cleaning brushes, setting tools for drop-in anchors, and ports plus paste-over for any injection work.

Simpson Strong-Tie questions

Does this page cover Simpson Strong-Tie wood connectors?

No. What is stocked here is the concrete and masonry side of the line: mechanical and adhesive anchors, crack injection epoxies and the accessories that go with them. Joist hangers, straps, holdowns and cold-formed steel connectors are not part of this assortment. Call 888-809-2365 if you need a line-card item that is not listed.

Is SET-3G the same as SET-XP?

They are different adhesives with different evaluation reports and different published capacities, so they are not interchangeable on a designed connection. SET-3G is the high-strength epoxy anchoring adhesive stocked here, in 8.5 oz, 22 oz and 56 oz cartridges, evaluated under ICC-ES ESR-4057 for cracked and uncracked concrete. If a drawing names SET-XP, confirm the substitution with the engineer of record against the current report before ordering.

Which crack injection epoxy should I use?

Work from crack width and substrate temperature. CI-SLV is the 150 cP super-low-viscosity option for the tightest cracks, CI-LV at 350 cP handles hairline widths up to 1/4", CI-LPL at 2,000 cP is made for hot conditions up to 110°F, CI-LV FS is the fast-setting version, and gel-viscosity CI-GV suits 3/32"–1/4" cracks, vertical and overhead sealing and underwater injection. Each is stocked as a 32 oz cartridge and as a 3-gallon bulk kit.

Can I inject epoxy into a leaking crack?

Not as a first step. Structural injection epoxy is intended for dormant cracks and assumes the resin can fill and bond the crack faces. Where water is seeping or mildly leaking, Crack-Pac Flex-H2O is the polyurethane resin for the job: it reacts with moisture, expands to fill the void and leaves a flexible seal in cracks 1/32"–1/4" wide. That seal is not a structural repair; if load transfer has to be restored, treat the two objectives separately.

Titen HD, Strong-Bolt 2 or a drop-in anchor?

Titen HD is a screw anchor installed with a rotary impact and can be removed, which suits temporary fixtures, formwork and fast repeat installations. Strong-Bolt 2 is a torque-controlled wedge anchor for permanent through-bolted connections. A drop-in is set first and receives a rod or bolt afterwards, which is why it is the usual choice for overhead hangers and flush slab conditions. All three carry cracked-concrete evaluations; the design governs which is acceptable.

Do drop-in anchors need a setting tool?

Yes. The DIAB is a displacement-controlled anchor, so the internal plug must be driven to the bottom of the anchor with the matching hand or power setting tool before any load is applied; an indication marker confirms the anchor is set. Size the tool to the anchor. Note that the HDIASTH tools listed here are for the hollow drop-in used in hollow base materials, not for the DIAB.

Where do I find the code reports and design values?

Capacities come from the ICC-ES evaluation report for each anchor, used with ACI 318 Chapter 17 and the engineer's design: ESR-4057 for SET-3G, ESR-2713 for Titen HD and ESR-3037 for Strong-Bolt 2. Simpson also publishes Anchor Designer software for the calculation. Ask and we will send the current report and data sheet with your quote.
