WR Meadows DECK-O-SHIELD is a ready-to-use, water-based sealer and water repellent for natural stone, concrete and masonry, supplied in a 5 gallon pail. It is intended for waterfalls, decks, patios and walkways in and around swimming pools.
WR Meadows DECK-O-SHIELD (often searched as deck o shield) is a ready-to-use, water-based sealer and water repellent for natural stone, concrete and masonry. It is intended for waterfalls in or around swimming pools, and for natural stone decks, walkways and patios near the pool. It limits water penetration into structurally sound, crack-free surfaces, and treated surfaces resist salt penetration, which reduces "whitening" and staining. It penetrates rather than forming a film, so the color and tint of the surface stay virtually unchanged after it dries. It is a water repellent, not a waterproofing or vapor barrier.

Product documents: WR Meadows DECK-O-SHIELD Data Sheet (PDF)
What surfaces is WR Meadows DECK-O-SHIELD intended for?
It is intended for waterfalls, decks, porches, patios and walkways around pools, on natural stone, mortar joints, concrete, brick, concrete block and stucco. Surfaces must be structurally sound, clean and free from dirt, efflorescence and stains.
How much area does a 5 gallon pail of DECK-O-SHIELD cover?
The data sheet gives 100-175 sq ft/gal on concrete and masonry, so a 5 gallon pail covers about 500-875 sq ft. Natural stone is 75-175 sq ft/gal (about 375-875 sq ft), stucco 60-100 (about 300-500 sq ft) and concrete block 50-100 (about 250-500 sq ft). Porous stone and block may need much more product or extra coats, so always run a test area first.
How does DECK-O-SHIELD go on?
Use a brush, roller or low-pressure sprayer under 50 psi with a fan tip; the data sheet names a Chapin 1949 sprayer with a 1-5915 nozzle. On vertical surfaces, saturate from the bottom up with a 4-8 inch rundown, let it penetrate 5-10 minutes, then re-saturate while still moist. On horizontal surfaces, saturate in one application, keep the surface wet 2-3 minutes and broom out puddles. On dense surfaces use a single coat without drips or puddles, and do not over-apply.
Will DECK-O-SHIELD change the look of the stone?
Surface appearance after it dries is virtually unchanged, and it is transparent and non-staining. Temporary darkening of some substrates can occur, and it will not hide existing stains. Run a small test patch on each surface type first.
Can I seal over DECK-O-SHIELD or caulk the joints afterward?
The CS-309, EXPO-GLOSS, DECRA-SEAL, TIAH and VOCOMP series from WR Meadows can go over a surface treated with DECK-O-SHIELD for water beading and, depending on the product, a glossy look. Do not use DECK-O-SHIELD on surfaces that will receive caulks or sealants; going over fully cured elastomeric sealants typically will not affect them.
What are the temperature and weather limits?
Surface and air temperature should be 40-95 F (4-35 C) during application and for eight hours after. Do not freeze the product. Protect treated surfaces from rain for six hours, and on hot, windy days work early and in shade. Many surfaces take several days to develop full water repellency.
