WR Meadows HYDRALASTIC 836 is a cold-applied, solvent-free, single-component waterproofing compound, supplied in a 5 gallon pail. It is intended for positive-side waterproofing of exterior concrete, above or below grade, on plaza decks, planters, parapets, foundations and split slabs.
WR Meadows HYDRALASTIC 836 (often searched as hydralastic 836) is a cold-applied, solvent-free, single-component waterproofing compound that does not shrink, has a low VOC content and a very low odor. It is intended for exterior concrete surfaces where protection from water intrusion is needed, above and below grade, horizontal and vertical: plaza decks, planter boxes, parapets, positive-side foundation waterproofing and split-slab work. It goes on by trowel, squeegee or roller, skins over in 30 minutes at 75 F (23 C) and cures to a tough, flexible membrane. It is not intended for negative-side waterproofing, as a liner in a water-containing structure, or as an exposed or wearing surface, and it must be covered with a protection course.

Product documents: WR Meadows HYDRALASTIC 836 Data Sheet (PDF)
How much area does a 5 gallon pail of WR Meadows HYDRALASTIC 836 cover?
Per gallon, the data sheet gives 26 sq ft at 60 mils dry, 17.5 sq ft at 90 mils and 13 sq ft at 120 mils. A 5 gallon pail covers about 130 sq ft at 60 mils, about 87.5 sq ft at 90 mils or about 65 sq ft at 120 mils.
How thick should HYDRALASTIC 836 go on?
A single 60 mil coat is used for typical work such as foundation walls and planters. For critical horizontal work such as plaza decks and podiums, the data sheet recommends a 120 mil layer embedded with REINFORCING FABRIC HCR, following the WR Meadows HIGH BUILD REINFORCED SYSTEM technical bulletin.
Does the surface need a primer?
Priming is recommended on porous substrates where air or moisture release could cause pinholes or blisters. Use REZI-WELD LV or REZI-WELD LV STATE; on vertical surfaces only, REZI-WELD 1000 is recommended. Do not use asphalt-based primers.
How should the surface be prepared?
It is intended for concrete, metal and wood. The substrate must be structurally sound, surface dry, dust-free and free of frost, grease, oil, curing compounds and release agents. Lightly roughen or grind smooth concrete, clean with denatured alcohol, and do not use petroleum solvents such as mineral spirits or xylene. Fill bug holes and tie holes with MEADOW-PATCH 5 or MEADOW-PATCH 20.
How long do I have to work it, and when can I recoat?
Work life is one hour at 75 F (23 C) and it skins over in 30 minutes. Put on a second coat as soon as possible, no more than eight hours apart at 75 F. For next-day or second-coat work, wipe a 6-8 Inch tie-in area with acetone or alcohol to remove the oily film that can form. Tack-free time is usually four hours.
What are the limitations?
Do not leave it exposed to exterior UV for more than 14 days, and cover it with MEL-DRAIN (polyester backing film type) or PC2R PROTECTION COURSE once it can be walked on. It is not for use as a liner in a water-containing structure, as an exposed or wearing surface, on surfaces to be painted, or for negative-side waterproofing. Minimum application temperature is above 20 F (-7 C) and rising, and shelf life is six months.
