WR Meadows PROTECTION COURSE PC-2 Standard Duty 4 ft x 8 ft Panel

WR Meadows PROTECTION COURSE is a multi-ply, semi-rigid protection board made of a mineral-fortified asphalt core formed between two outside layers of asphalt-impregnated reinforced mats, manufactured to ASTM D6506. This panel is type PC-2, Standard Duty. Properly applied, it absorbs the impact of aggregate shock and normal jobsite foot traffic, and it protects membrane waterproofing from penetration by sharp aggregate during backfilling and later settlement. It is used in between-slab construction such as plaza decks, roof terraces, promenade decks, pedestrian concourses, tunnels, bathroom floors, showers, kitchens, mechanical rooms, parking garage decks, planter boxes and reflective pools, and on foundation walls. One face carries a polyethylene film and the other an asphalt-impregnated reinforced mat; the membrane manufacturer should confirm which face is compatible with the membrane being protected.

Key Features

  • Standard-duty board, ASTM D6506, Class B, Type 1 and 2
  • Full-width fiberglass matting raises flexural strength
  • Highly resistant to chemical action
  • Equally effective above or below grade
  • Dual facing compatible with most popular waterproofing materials

Applications

  • Plaza decks, roof terraces and promenade decks
  • Tunnels, parking garage decks, planter boxes and reflective pools
  • Foundation walls before backfill
  • Bathroom floors, showers, kitchens and mechanical rooms

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between PROTECTION COURSE PC-2 and PC-3?
PC-2 is Standard Duty, 0.095 - 0.155 Inch (2.4 - 3.9 mm) thick, with a 70 lbf (312 N) minimum puncture strength, meeting ASTM D6506, Class B, Type 1 and 2. PC-3 is Heavy Duty, 0.220 - 0.280 Inch (5.6 - 7.1 mm) thick, with an 82 lbf (365 N) minimum puncture strength, meeting Class B, Type 1, 2 and 3. Both have 10.0% maximum water absorption and at least 40% asphalt by weight.

Is it compatible with my waterproofing membrane?
It is compatible with most popular dampproofing and waterproofing materials, but before applying it, ask the membrane manufacturer whether the polyethylene film face or the asphalt-impregnated mat face is approved for that membrane. Where it is adhered to the membrane, use an approved adhesive. Do not place it over liquid membranes containing volatile solvents until all of the solvent has evaporated.

How is it installed on horizontal surfaces?
The membrane must be free of sharp projections, dirt and dust, and any water test should be done first. Install the panels as soon as the membrane applicator or manufacturer allows, butted together and cut to fit intersecting surfaces and protrusions, and apply it at the end of each day's waterproofing. Joints may be covered with DETAIL STRIP or roofer's glass-reinforced tape in hot asphalt as a secondary waterproofing system. On decks, install it just before the wearing surface.

How is it used on foundation walls?
On dampproofed or waterproofed walls that will receive backfill, butt the panels together and hold them in place temporarily if needed. Backfill right away and with care, so backfill does not drag the panels down as it drops. Panels ship on pallets with the polyethylene anti-stick sheet on top; store them on pallets on a level surface.
