WR Meadows MEL-ROL is a 60 mil, self-adhering, bituminous roll waterproofing membrane: a 56 mil polymeric membrane on a 4 mil cross-laminated polyethylene carrier film, supplied in a 38.5 Inch x 62.5 ft roll (200 sq ft). It is intended for foundations, below-grade walls and floors, balconies, and between-slab work on plaza and parking decks.
WR Meadows MEL-ROL (often searched as mel rol or melrol) is a flexible, bituminous, roll-type waterproofing membrane. Each 60 mil sheet is a nominally 56 mil layer of polymeric waterproofing membrane laminated to a 4 mil cross-laminated polyethylene carrier film. An overlap guideline is printed 2.5 Inch in from each edge, and exposed polymeric strips on both sides give membrane-to-membrane adhesion in the lap. It is intended for foundations, vertical walls, below-grade floors and balconies in residential and commercial work, for between-the-slab waterproofing on plaza decks, parking decks and structural slabs, and for isolating mechanical rooms, laboratories, kitchens and bathrooms. It goes on concrete, masonry, wood, insulated wall systems, metal and insulated concrete forms, over MEL-PRIME adhesive, and is part of a system with MEL-ROL LIQUID MEMBRANE, POINTING MASTIC, DETAIL STRIP, TERMINATION BAR, PROTECTION COURSE and MEL-DRAIN. This standard grade goes on when air and surface temperatures are above 40 F (4 C); WR Meadows makes MEL-ROL LOW TEMP for colder work.

How much area does one roll of WR Meadows MEL-ROL cover?
Each 38.5 Inch x 62.5 ft roll gives 200 sq ft (18.6 m²) gross, or 187.5 sq ft (17.4 m²) net with the 2.5 Inch side overlap.
At what temperature can MEL-ROL go on?
Apply it in dry, fair weather when air and surface temperatures are above 40 F (4 C), and not on frozen concrete. For air and surface temperatures between 20 F (-7 C) and 60 F (16 C), use MEL-ROL LOW TEMP.
Does the surface need MEL-PRIME?
Yes. Apply MEL-PRIME adhesive (solvent-based or water-based MEL-PRIME W/B) only to surfaces that will be covered within one working day. If primed surfaces are left exposed overnight, more adhesive must be applied. All substrates must be clean, dry and free of surface irregularities.
How should the surface be prepared?
Concrete should be cured at least 72 hours and be clean, dry, smooth and free of voids. Repair spalled areas, fill voids and remove sharp protrusions. Masonry walls may need a cementitious parge coat, which must dry before priming.
How are laps, joints and penetrations handled?
Run the roll from low to high points so laps shed water, stagger end laps and overlap seams at least 2.5 Inch. Put a double thickness of MEL-ROL over construction, control and expansion joints and over cracks wider than 1/16 Inch. Seal protrusions with two layers extending at least 6 Inch in all directions. Finish top terminations with POINTING MASTIC or BEM at least 1/8 Inch thick and 1 Inch wide; TERMINATION BAR is optional. Hand-rub and pressure roll the whole sheet.
Does MEL-ROL need protection, and what should it not touch?
Cover it right away with PROTECTION COURSE (PC-2 or PC-3) if no drainage system is used, or with MEL-DRAIN, then backfill with care. Keep products that contain tars, solvents, pitches, polysulfide polymers, or flexible PVC and vinyl away from the membrane. WR Meadows recommends proper site drainage as part of the system.
