Product documents: WR Meadows MEL-PRIME Data Sheet (PDF)
How much area does a 5 gallon pail of WR Meadows MEL-PRIME cover?
The data sheet gives 250-300 sq ft per gallon by roller or brush, so a 5 gallon pail covers about 1,250-1,500 sq ft.
How cold can it be when MEL-PRIME goes on?
Use it at 10 F (-12 C) and above for adhesion. Do not apply it when rain is imminent or on damp or frost-covered surfaces.
How soon must the membrane go on?
Apply MEL-PRIME only to the area that will be covered with membrane during the working day; areas not covered within 24 hours must be re-applied. The primer is dry when the surface becomes sticky or tacky. Temperatures above 95 F (35 C) only shorten dry time slightly. Protect the primed surface from dust and dirt.
How should the surface be prepared?
Surfaces must be clean, dry, smooth and free of voids; fill voids and remove sharp protrusions. Concrete should be cured at least 72 hours. Metal must be clean, dry and free of loose paint, rust and other contaminants.
What safety precautions apply?
The product is flammable, so remove ignition sources before use. Direct contact may cause mild to moderate eye and skin irritation, and vapors may cause transient central nervous system depression. Its safety data sheet lists it as UN 1294, Toluene Solution, so it ships by freight in every size.
How should it be stored, and does it need thinning?
Do not dilute it; use it as supplied, and avoid puddles, which lengthen drying time. Stored indoors in unopened containers at 40-90 F (4-32 C), shelf life is three years. Clean tools with mineral spirits.
