WR Meadows MEL-PRIME W/B is a ready-to-use, water-based adhesive that prepares and dustproofs surfaces in one step, supplied in a 5 gallon pail. It is intended for conditioning surfaces to receive MEL-ROL, MEL-DEK and AIR-SHIELD membranes.
WR Meadows MEL-PRIME W/B (often searched as mel prime or melprime) is a ready-to-use adhesive made with polymers in a true water-based emulsion. It prepares and dustproofs new, existing, vertical and horizontal surfaces in one operation. It is intended for conditioning surfaces that will receive WR Meadows waterproofing and air and vapor barrier products, including MEL-DEK, MEL-ROL and AIR-SHIELD. It goes on brown to blackish and turns full black as it cures, so coverage is easy to see. It is non-combustible, has no harmful odors, and can be used on interior and exterior surfaces when surface and air temperatures are 40 F (4 C) and rising.

Product documents: WR Meadows MEL-PRIME W/B Data Sheet (PDF)
How much area does a 5 gallon pail of WR Meadows MEL-PRIME W/B cover?
The data sheet gives 150-200 sq ft per gallon, so a 5 gallon pail covers about 750-1,000 sq ft.
What temperatures does MEL-PRIME W/B need?
Apply it in fair weather when surface and air temperatures are 40 F (4 C) and rising. Do not apply it below 40 F, on frozen or frost-covered surfaces, or when rain is imminent, and keep the product from freezing.
How soon can the membrane go on?
It dries in about one hour, depending on temperature and application rate, and the surface must be tacky to the touch before covering. Condition only the area that will be covered that working day; areas not covered within 24 hours must be reconditioned. In very dusty areas, put the membrane on as soon as the adhesive is dry.
What surfaces can it go on?
Precast and cast-in-place concrete, concrete block, exterior-grade fiberglass-faced gypsum board, insulating sheathing, primed steel, mill-finish and anodized aluminum, primed galvanized metal, insulated concrete forms and untreated lumber. Metal does not need conditioning but must be clean, dry and free of loose paint and rust.
How is it applied?
Mix it thoroughly, then apply by sprayer, roller or brush. Only specific sprayers work with it and hand-pump sprayers are not recommended, so contact WR Meadows before spraying. Do not dilute it, and avoid puddles, which lengthen drying time.
What is its VOC content and shelf life?
VOC content is 0 g/L, and the data sheet lists compliance with U.S. EPA, SCAQMD and OTC rules. Unopened pails stored indoors at 40-90 F (4-32 C) are best used within six months of manufacture. Clean equipment with soap and water before it dries, or with mineral spirits once dry.
