Choosing epoxy grout for your application

Start with the equipment and project specification. Then compare the grout’s flow, creep resistance, placement limits and performance in service. Products with similar compressive strengths can suit very different installations.

These products are starting points for comparison. Follow the exact formulation’s current technical data and the project requirements. For the broader material choice, see our Grouts guide.

Flow beneath equipment bases

High-flow epoxy grout must travel through the available clearance and fill beneath the plate. Check the flow path, access for placement and required bearing contact. A thin-pour grout and a chocking compound can have different minimum depths even when both support machinery.

Five Star LC addresses low-clearance rail and machinery applications. Unisorb Standard V-100 is another option for specified machine-support and leveling installations.

Deep pours & heat management

Depth alone does not describe a pour: total volume and temperature also affect heat buildup and working time. Choose a low-exotherm formulation with limits that fit the installation.

Kit configuration matters. Euclid E3 Deep Pour permits greater depth in its standard configuration than in its high-flow configuration. Five Star XP-230 and SikaFlow 678 also address deep placements; follow their stated conditions and consultation requirements.

Chemical exposure & service temperature

“Chemical-resistant” is a starting point, not a compatibility rating for every process fluid. Review the manufacturer’s resistance data against the actual chemical, concentration and exposure conditions.

For warm operating equipment, check creep and retained performance at the required service temperature. Keep that assessment separate from the grout’s permitted mixing and placement temperatures.

Shutdown schedules & return to service

Coordinate working time, curing conditions and the required grout properties before scheduling bolt tightening or equipment startup. Rapid-setting epoxy grout can help with a demanding schedule when it meets the full specification.

Five Star Rapid is formulated for rapid strength development. SikaFlow 640 is an accelerator for SikaFlow 648, 649 and 678—not a standalone grout or a general-purpose additive.

Epoxy grout documents & quantity planning

Use the exact product and kit configuration to prepare the submittal and calculate the order. Product pages provide technical documents; selected manufacturer references are linked below.

Check the specified performance

Review strength with its test method, cure age and temperature. Check creep, bearing contact, chemical exposure and placement limits alongside it. Include installation instructions and safety data in the submittal.

Confirm the formulation

Standard, high-flow, high-strength and low-exotherm configurations are not automatically interchangeable. Confirm the supplied components and manufacturer-approved aggregate loading for the application.

Calculate complete kits

Calculate grout volume from the placement dimensions, including pockets, shoulders and an appropriate allowance. Divide by the published yield of the exact complete kit and round up to whole units.

Epoxy grout questions

What is industrial epoxy grout used for?

Industrial epoxy grout is used beneath machinery baseplates and other supports to provide bearing and transfer loads to a foundation. This range also includes products for chocking, anchoring, deep foundation repairs and pile-jacket systems. Select a formulation intended for the application.

Is epoxy grout always non-shrink?

Use the selected product’s stated dimensional-change performance and test method. Many equipment grouts are described as non-shrink or low-shrinkage, but those descriptions should not be applied to every resin, grout or accessory in the category.

Can I use a high-flow epoxy grout for a deep pour?

Only within that configuration’s permitted limits. Reducing aggregate to a manufacturer-approved high-flow configuration can change yield, heat generation and maximum depth. Check the exact mix and placement instructions; do not assume the standard configuration’s limits still apply.

Can epoxy grout be placed underwater?

Only a product and system expressly intended for that use. Five Star Pile Jacket LPL-HF and Euclid Aquaseal LVS have documented pile-encapsulation applications. Moisture tolerance in a machinery grout does not establish suitability for underwater placement.

How soon can grouted equipment return to service?

Follow the project’s required grout properties and the manufacturer’s loading instructions at the actual curing temperature. Pot life, initial set and early compressive strength describe different stages; none alone establishes that the equipment is ready to operate.
