Choose the right Avanti injection grout
Start chemical grouting from the condition you are grouting into, not from the product name. Decide whether water is actively flowing, whether the space will go through wet and dry cycles, and whether you need to fill a void, seal a joint or permeate soil. That decision points to a chemistry; the exact resin, catalyst and viscosity follow from it.

Field planning
Plan the injection
Most failed leak-sealing work comes from the diagnosis or the placement method rather than the resin. Work through the structure, the water and the access before deciding what to pump.
Diagnose the leak before choosing a resin
Determine where water enters, how much is moving and whether flow is constant or seasonal. A weeping joint, a pressurized pipe penetration and a void outside a wall are three different problems. Note the substrate as well — concrete, brick, soil or rock changes both the chemistry and the injection pressure.
Where flow is heavy, a fast-reacting resin is used first to slow the water and a second resin completes the seal. Avanti publishes AV-290 Fast-Set for that role and states it should not be used as a stand-alone solution against high water flow.
Hydrophilic or hydrophobic
Hydrophilic resins need water to react and remain in contact with it afterwards, which suits joints and cracks that stay wet. Hydrophobic resins react with available moisture, cure closed-cell and hold up where the space dries out and re-wets. The wrong choice usually shows up as shrinkage or a seal that fails after the first dry season.
Acrylic gels sit outside both groups. Because they permeate soil at very low viscosity, they form a barrier behind the wall or pipe instead of only filling the defect, which is why they are used on manholes, mainlines, laterals and tunnels.
Placement method and access
Cartridges and a hand gun suit small, accessible repairs. Packers and a single- or dual-component pump suit crack and joint injection at pressure. The expanded gasket placement technique — oakum or resin rod saturated with resin and packed into the joint — is the established method for manhole and large-joint work.
Plan drill angles, packer spacing and the sequence of injection points before mobilizing, and confirm access to the far side of the defect. Curtain grouting behind a wall is a different setup and needs enough resin volume to form a continuous barrier.
Equipment, catalysts and cleanup
Single-component resins, catalyzed systems and dual-component resins each need matching equipment, and catalyst ratios change reaction time. Where potable-water certification matters, it is maintained only with the catalysts the manufacturer specifies — for AV-118 Duriflex that means AV-101, AV-102 or AV-103.
Polyurethane resins react with moisture, so equipment is flushed and dried between uses; technical grade acetone is the published method. Order the accessories, tips, oakum and cleanup materials with the resin so work is not stopped by a consumable.

Confirm the certification, the volume and the documents before the order is placed — chemical grout is usually bought once for a mobilization, and a return trip is expensive.
Confirm the specified product and certification
Verify the exact product number and any potable-water requirement. AV-202 Multigrout and AV-118 Duriflex are certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 for drinking water system components, and AV-248-LV is certified for potable water use; certification follows the specific product and catalyst, not the brand.
Estimate resin volume
Base the estimate on the defect: joint length and width, void volume, or the soil volume to be permeated, then allow for the expansion or gel ratio the product is published for and for resin lost priming lines and packers. Order the oakum, packers, tips and catalyst in the same quantities.
Assemble the submittal
Collect the current technical data sheet, SDS, NSF certification listing where relevant, and the manufacturer's application instructions. Municipal and potable-water work usually requires the certification listing, not just the data sheet.

What is Avanti chemical grout used for?
Avanti injection grouts stop water infiltration, stabilize soil and help restore aging infrastructure. Typical work includes sealing manholes, sanitary and storm sewer mainlines and laterals, pipe penetrations, utility vaults, tunnels, below-grade walls and construction joints. The company began in 1978 with AV-100 Chemical Grout for sealing leaks in municipal sewer lines and now supplies acrylics, urethanes, cementitious grouts and epoxies.
What is the difference between hydrophilic and hydrophobic polyurethane grout?
Hydrophilic resins react with water and remain in contact with it after curing, which suits permanently wet joints and cracks. Hydrophobic resins react with available moisture, cure closed-cell and tolerate wet and dry cycling better, which suits spaces that dry out between events. The choice depends on the moisture condition over the life of the repair, not on the size of the leak.
What is AV-202 Multigrout?
AV-202 Multigrout is a single-component, moisture-activated MDI/TDI blended polyurethane injection resin for sealing active water leaks in large cracks and joints in concrete and brick structures. Mixed near a 1:1 water-to-resin ratio it forms a tough impermeable foam; near 10:1 it forms a gel. It is used for manhole sealing and pipe penetrations, often with oakum or resin rod, and is certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61. AV-202-LV is the low-viscosity version and AV-202-NTP is a further single-component variant.
Which Avanti product handles a high-flow leak?
AV-290 Fast-Set is a mid-range viscosity, dual-component hydrophobic polyurethane designed to rapidly fill large voids outside below-grade structures where high water flow is present. It is free-rise expanding, cures rigid and closed-cell, and withstands wet and dry cycles. Avanti states it should be used to slow high flows together with another of its injection resins rather than on its own.
Can Avanti grout be used in potable water systems?
Several products are certified; certification is product-specific and can depend on the catalyst used. AV-202 Multigrout and AV-118 Duriflex are certified to NSF/ANSI/CAN 61 for drinking water system components, and AV-248-LV is certified for potable water. For AV-118, the certification is maintained only when AV-101, AV-102 or AV-103 catalysts are used. Confirm the current listing for the exact product before specifying.
What is oakum used for in chemical grouting?
AV-219 Fibrotite oakum is a twisted jute rope free of oils and tars, used with polyurethane grouts in the expanded gasket placement technique: the oakum is saturated with resin and packed into the joint, where it holds the resin in place while it reacts and forms a gasket. AV-215 Resin Rod, an open-cell polyurethane foam rod, works the same way.
Do I need a grout pump, or will cartridges work?
Cartridges and a hand gun cover small, accessible repairs and single joints. Pressure injection through packers, curtain grouting behind a structure, and any work needing controlled ratios or volume require a single- or dual-component pump matched to the resin. Dual-component systems such as AV-290 and the catalyzed acrylics cannot be run from a cartridge gun.
