WR Meadows PRECON WINTER-GRADE is the low temperature version of PRECON, a pre-applied composite sheet membrane of non-woven fabric, elastomeric membrane and a seven-layer PLASMATIC CORE, supplied in a 4 ft x 50 ft roll (200 sq ft). It is intended for blindside and underslab waterproofing and vaporproofing installed at 20 F and rising.
WR Meadows PRECON WINTER-GRADE (part of the precon wr meadows family) is a composite sheet membrane made of a non-woven fabric, an elastomeric membrane and the WR Meadows PLASMATIC CORE, a seven-layer matrix intended for toughness and low water vapor transmission. Once concrete is poured against it and cures, a mechanical bond forms that secures the concrete to the membrane. It is used as a blindside membrane on vertical walls where access to the positive side is limited, and horizontally for underslab waterproofing and vaporproofing, and it reduces methane and radon gas intrusion. This low temperature version installs at temperatures down to 20 F (-7 C) and rising. End laps, terminations and penetrations are detailed with HYDRALASTIC 836 and DETAIL FABRIC. Before the pour, the membrane should not reach temperatures above 120 F (49 C) from air and sunlight exposure.

Product documents: WR Meadows PRECON WINTER-GRADE Data Sheet (PDF)
How much area does one roll of WR Meadows PRECON WINTER-GRADE cover?
Each 4 ft x 50 ft roll is 200 sq ft of membrane before laps. The release-paper edge is lapped 6 Inch, so the net area is lower; the 714-WG data sheet does not print a net coverage figure.
At what temperatures does PRECON WINTER-GRADE go on?
It can be installed at temperatures down to 20 F (-7 C) and rising. Before the concrete is placed, it should not reach temperatures above 120 F (49 C) from air and sunlight exposure. WR Meadows publishes a PRECON COLD WEATHER APPLICATION TECHNICAL BULLETIN with full cold-weather instructions.
What material is used for laps and penetrations?
For best results, WR Meadows calls for HYDRALASTIC 836 on all end lap details and terminations. At penetrations, form a HYDRALASTIC 836 fillet that overlaps the fabric side and the protrusion at least 2.5 Inch, and apply DETAIL FABRIC over the uncured HYDRALASTIC 836 where the gap is over 1/2 Inch. Applied at 20 F, HYDRALASTIC 836 can take up to two weeks to fully cure, and low humidity delays the cure.
How is it installed on a blindside wall?
Attach MEL-DRAIN to the lagging or soil retention system first. Fasten the membrane every 12 Inch across the top, within 1/2 Inch of the top edge, with the fabric side facing the concrete pour. Remove the release paper on the 6 Inch overlap and roll press with a tile-type roller.
Can it be used without a drainage board?
It can be used with a caisson wall shoring system without a drainage board such as MEL-DRAIN, at the engineer's discretion; WR Meadows recommends proper site drainage. Without a drainage board the substrate must be sound, solid and smooth, and gaps or voids over 1 Inch must be grouted. With MEL-DRAIN the system bridges gaps under 2 Inch; larger gaps must be grouted.
What has to happen before the concrete pour?
Pour the concrete within 60 days of installing the membrane. Inspect for punctures or damage and repair with HYDRALASTIC 836 and/or DETAIL FABRIC, and clear standing water and any material that would affect the bond. Use bar supports with a flat bottom, and for underslab work prepare the subgrade per ACI 302.1R-04, Chapter 4. Store cartons on pallets, covered if outside, away from sparks and flames.
