WR Meadows MEL-ROL LOW TEMP is a self-adhering roll waterproofing membrane with a 56 mil polymeric layer for adhesion at lower temperatures, supplied in a 38.5 Inch x 62.5 ft roll (200.5 sq ft). It is intended for foundations, below-grade walls and floors, and between-slab work when air and surface temperatures are between 20 F and 60 F.
WR Meadows MEL-ROL LOW TEMP (part of the mel rol family) is a flexible, roll-type waterproofing membrane for cold-weather work. It has a nominally 56 mil polymeric membrane, for adhesion at lower temperatures, laminated to a 4 mil cross-laminated polyethylene carrier film. An overlap guideline is printed 2.5 Inch in from each edge, and exposed membrane strips on both sides give membrane-to-membrane adhesion in the lap. It is intended for foundations, vertical walls, below-grade floors and balconies, for between-the-slab waterproofing on plaza decks, parking decks and structural slabs, and for tunnel projects, in cold temperature conditions. It goes on concrete, masonry, wood, insulated wall systems and metal over MEL-PRIME adhesive, when air and surface temperatures are between 20 F (-7 C) and 60 F (16 C). For moderate temperatures, WR Meadows makes the standard MEL-ROL grade.

Product documents: WR Meadows MEL-ROL LOW TEMP Data Sheet (PDF)
How much area does one roll of WR Meadows MEL-ROL LOW TEMP cover?
Each 38.5 Inch x 62.5 ft roll gives 200.5 sq ft (18.6 m²) gross, or 187.5 sq ft (17.4 m²) net with a 2.5 Inch overlap.
At what temperatures is MEL-ROL LOW TEMP used?
Apply it in dry, fair weather when air and surface temperatures are between 20 F (-7 C) and 60 F (16 C), and not on frozen concrete. The standard MEL-ROL grade is for moderate temperatures, and WR Meadows also makes MEL-ROL XLT for extra-low temperatures.
What adhesive goes under it?
Apply MEL-PRIME adhesive to surfaces that will be covered within one working day; if left exposed overnight, more adhesive must be applied. The 714-C data sheet lists the solvent-based MEL-PRIME as the accessory adhesive for this grade. In certain conditions the overlaps may also need priming.
How should the surface be prepared?
Concrete should be cured at least 72 hours and be clean, dry, smooth and free of voids. Repair spalled areas, fill voids and remove sharp protrusions. Masonry walls may need a cementitious parge coat, which must dry before priming.
How are laps and details handled?
Run the roll from low to high so laps shed water, stagger end laps and overlap seams at least 2.5 Inch. Use a double thickness over construction, control and expansion joints and over cracks wider than 1/16 Inch. Seal protrusions with two layers at least 6 Inch in all directions, and finish top terminations with POINTING MASTIC at least 1/8 Inch thick and 1 Inch wide. At the footing keyway, fill the voids around rebar with HYDRALASTIC 836.
What protection and precautions apply?
Cover it right away with PROTECTION COURSE if no drainage system is used, or with MEL-DRAIN, then backfill with care. Keep tars, solvents, pitches, polysulfide polymers and PVC materials away from the membrane. It does not remove the need to relieve hydrostatic head: place a complete drain tile system around the footing and under slabs as required. Store cartons away from sparks and flames.
