WR Meadows MEL-ROL LM is a single-component, water-based, polymer-modified, cold-applied liquid waterproofing membrane, supplied in a 5 gallon pail. It is intended for seamless, positive-side waterproofing of exterior below-grade vertical concrete and masonry, including ICFs and green concrete.
WR Meadows MEL-ROL LM (often searched as mel rol lm or melrol lm) is a single-component, polymer-modified, cold-applied, water-based liquid waterproofing membrane for below-grade vertical work. It uses the same rubber polymers as the MEL-ROL sheet membrane in a heavy-bodied, high-solids, quick-drying liquid. It goes on by roller or airless sprayer, cures to a fully bonded, seamless membrane that bridges minor cracks, and can be used for new and remedial work on concrete or masonry block, ICFs and damp or green concrete. Protection courses, insulation boards or drainage boards can be embedded in it, and PERMINATOR vapor barrier over the membrane forms a composite system. It is for vertical, exterior, positive-side waterproofing only; for horizontal work the data sheet calls for HYDRALASTIC 836.

Product documents: WR Meadows MEL-ROL LM Data Sheet (PDF)
How much wall does a 5 gallon pail of WR Meadows MEL-ROL LM cover?
The data sheet gives 20-25 sq ft per gallon at 60 mils, so a 5 gallon pail covers about 100-125 sq ft. Coverage depends on the substrate, weather and application conditions, and porous substrates or block walls may need extra coats.
How is MEL-ROL LM applied?
By roller, use a 3/4 Inch nap and put on two coats of 30 mils each, letting the first reach initial set. By spray, reach at least 60 mils wet (45 mils dry) in two 30 mil wet coats, with the second after the first has dried (about one to two hours). Check thickness often with a wet mil gauge. A primer coat diluted with water (4:1 to 5:1) at 100-150 sq ft per gallon may be needed to reduce blistering on concrete.
How should the wall be prepared and detailed?
Concrete should cure in place at least three days at 75 F (23.9 C) and be clean, free of coatings, curing compounds and frost, relatively smooth and sound. Patch bug holes, tie holes and cracks with MEADOW-PATCH 5 or MEADOW-PATCH 20, and cove inside corners with BEM. Build up 120 mils at corners, cracks, drains and penetrations; pretreat shrinkage cracks under 1/16 Inch with a 60 mil coat 6 Inch wide, and tape wider cracks with DETAIL STRIP.
What weather limits apply?
Minimum application temperature is 40 F (4.4 C). Do not apply the membrane or primer if air, material or surface temperatures will drop below 40 F within four hours, or if rain is forecast within 12 hours at 77 F (23 C). Protect it from freezing for 24 hours, keep containers from freezing, and do not use material that has been below 32 F (0 C).
How is it protected and backfilled?
Cover it with PROTECTION COURSE, MEL-DRAIN (type B with polymeric backing film) or PERMINATOR within 45 days. Allow 24 hours for a complete cure before backfilling.
What are the limitations?
MEL-ROL LM is only for vertical, exterior, positive-side waterproofing; use HYDRALASTIC 836 for horizontal work and the GEMITE line for negative-side or interior work. Do not spray urethane foam over it. It does not remove the need to relieve hydrostatic head, so install a drain tile system as required. Keep solvents out of the sprayer, and flush with water only before any final aromatic-solvent flush.
