Foundations and below-grade concrete

Waterstop for foundations, tanks and vaults

Data center sites carry more water-holding and water-excluding concrete than most commercial work: thermal energy storage tanks, water treatment and recycling structures, cooling-tower basins, stormwater and fuel containment vaults, pits, sumps and deep foundation walls. Every construction and expansion joint in that concrete needs a waterstop matched to the joint, and every joint tied into existing concrete needs a retrofit system.

PVC profiles for new concrete

Retrofit, hydrophilic and penetration sealing

Choose the profile by the joint, not the wall
Joint conditionWhat to confirmProfile family
Expansion or isolation jointAnticipated lateral, transverse and shear movement; head of water; profile width to embedment depth.Ribbed centerbulb, dumbbell centerbulb, tear web

Slab-on-grade to wall (kicker or base)Placement sequence and whether the profile is set in the first pour or bottom of the wall form.Base seal, base seal with tear web, split flange
New concrete to existing concreteFace condition, anchor spacing, batten and epoxy gel; movement expected at the interface.PVC retrofit 655 / 609 series
Chemical exposure (fuel, treatment chemistry)Check the material against the actual exposure; standard PVC is not rated for every fluid.TPE-R, polyethylene or stainless, see TPERWaterstop.com

Before you order: Sika Greenstreak PVC profiles meet CRD-C 572-74 and NSF/ANSI 61; splice with heat welding using the profile's own material. Fittings, splicing irons and hog rings are ordered with the roll footage, not after.

Data hall and electrical-room slabs

Joint fillers, densifiers and slab repair

Data hall and gallery slabs carry rack loads, hard-wheeled lift traffic and, on many designs, the raised floor and containment above them. Specs call for densified, dust-free surfaces and filled control joints that support joint edges under wheel loads. Fill joints as late as the schedule allows so slab shrinkage is behind you.

Slab products on data center jobs

Before you order: confirm joint width and depth, wheel loads on the joint, and how long the slab has been in place; polyurea and semi-rigid epoxy fillers behave differently when joints are filled early. Densifier and any later flooring or coating must be compatible; the spec usually names the system.

Tilt-up and precast envelope

Panel joint sealants, expansion joints and panel repair

Most data center shells go up as tilt-up or precast panels. Panel joints, expansion joints and roof-to-wall transitions are sealed with polyurethane or silicone systems sized to the joint movement, backed with rod, and patched where lifting and erection left damage.

Envelope sealing on panel buildings

Before you order: take joint width and count per panel from the erection drawings, not the elevations. Color matching across manufacturers is not guaranteed; order the full run from one product line and keep a color chart on the submittal.

Equipment yards, pads and on-site power

Grouting generators, turbines, transformers and switchgear

Every generator, transformer, switchgear lineup, chiller and UPS block sits on a baseplate that needs full bearing on its foundation. Campuses adding permanent on-site generation add gas turbines, turbine-generators and reciprocating engines to that list, each with its own OEM grouting requirement. Cement and epoxy machinery grout is the work Indcon does most, and the products below are stocked in the units the OEM sheets are written around.

Epoxy or cementitious: what the equipment decides
EquipmentWhat drives the choiceUsual direction
Gas turbines, turbine-generators, compressorsDynamic load, vibration, thermal cycling and alignment retention. OEM installation manuals and API RP 686 Chapter 5 govern; expect creep (ASTM C1181) and compressive (ASTM C579) limits, plus foundation prep and grout conditioning requirements.Epoxy machinery grout, deep-pour formulation where plate clearance and volume require it
Reciprocating engines and gensets on skidsVibration and oil exposure. Enclosed gensets may sit on isolators or skid rails; confirm whether the base is grouted, shimmed or anchored only.Epoxy where the OEM calls for it; cementitious precision grout for rails and pedestals
Transformers, switchgear, UPS, battery containersStatic load, bearing area and anchor bolt performance. Placement temperature and return-to-service time often matter more than chemistry.Non-shrink cementitious grout to ASTM C1107; epoxy where chemical exposure or alignment is specified
Chillers, pumps, cooling equipmentVibration, wet service and bolt patterns. Housekeeping pads are doweled to the slab with adhesive anchors before the equipment arrives.Cementitious for pads and bases; epoxy under rotating equipment where specified

Epoxy machinery grout

Non-shrink cementitious grout

Five Star DP Epoxy Grout High Flow 1.75 cu ft unit
Five Star DP Epoxy Grout, High Flow 1.75 cu ft

Deep-pour epoxy for the turbine and compressor foundations

Five Star DP High Flow is a three-component expansive epoxy machinery grout for large-volume bases where heat of reaction and bearing area matter: fills plate clearances as tight as 1/2 in, placements from 1/2 in to 18 in, approximately 95 percent effective bearing area when placed to Five Star guidance, and a published 55 °F to 95 °F ambient window. The Standard Flow 2.0 cu ft unit carries deeper pours with a 1 in minimum clearance.

Turbine pours are sized in units, conditioned to temperature and placed from a headbox across the shortest dimension. Tell us the plate dimensions, grout thickness and forecast placement temperature and we will size the order, including forming allowance and the pump if you need one.

Post-installed anchors for equipment and housekeeping pads

Before you order: match the anchor to the evaluation report the structural drawings cite (ICC-ES ESR number, cracked concrete, seismic design category). Anchor ratings are per product, not per brand. Grout unit counts come from plate area, grout thickness and forming allowance; we will check your takeoff against the published yield.

Penetrations and rated assemblies

Firestop for cable tray, conduit and pipe penetrations

Data halls, electrical rooms and generator galleries are separated by rated walls and floors that cable tray, busduct, conduit and piping pass through by the hundreds. Each penetration needs a listed system matched to the assembly and the penetrant, and head-of-wall joints need a listed joint system.

STI SpecSeal systems

Before you order: the listed system (UL or Intertek number) is chosen from the assembly and the penetrant; the product follows from the system. Count penetrations by type from the coordination drawings and order pillows and collars by opening size.

Data center construction supply questions

Epoxy or cement grout under a gas turbine or generator?

Follow the OEM installation manual first. Turbines, turbine-generators and compressors are almost always specified for epoxy machinery grout because of dynamic load, alignment retention and creep limits, typically referencing API RP 686. Transformers, switchgear and static equipment are commonly grouted with non-shrink cementitious grout to ASTM C1107. Send us the OEM sheet and spec section and we will confirm the product.

How much epoxy grout does a baseplate take?

Plate length times width times grout thickness gives the neat volume; add forming and headbox allowance, then divide by the published yield of the exact unit and round up. Deep pours may need a specific formulation or lift limits. We size orders from your plate dimensions and thickness.

Can machinery grout be placed in cold or hot weather?

Every grout has a published placement window for material, foundation and ambient temperature. Epoxy grouts typically require conditioning the units and the foundation for a day or more before placement. Tell us the forecast and we will flag products and conditioning steps that fit it.

Which waterstop goes in a thermal storage tank or treatment structure?

Choose by joint: ribbed centerbulb or tear-web profiles for expansion and isolation joints, flat ribbed or base seal for construction joints with continuous reinforcement, and a PVC retrofit system where new concrete meets existing. Confirm the head of water, the chemistry the joint sees and the NSF/ANSI 61 requirement if potable.

How do I tie new waterstop into existing concrete?

Use a retrofit waterstop system anchored to the prepared existing face with stainless batten bars, anchors and structural epoxy gel, then embed the new profile in the fresh pour. The 655 and 609 series are stocked with hardware.

Do your anchors carry evaluation reports for seismic design?

Anchor ratings are product-specific. Each Simpson Strong-Tie and Adhesives Technology anchor product page links its ICC-ES report; match the report number and conditions (cracked concrete, seismic design category) to the structural drawings before ordering.

Which firestop product do I need for a cable tray penetration?

The listed system is selected from the wall or floor assembly, its rating and the penetrant; the product follows from that system. STI's system directory identifies the sealant, pillows or collars for each condition, and we stock the SpecSeal line to fill it.

Can you ship pallets to the jobsite on a schedule?

Yes. Grout ships by the pallet and waterstop by the roll on common-carrier freight to a laydown yard or gate with a required-on-site date. Give us the delivery ZIP, receiving hours and any site access requirements with the order.
