STI SpecSeal SSB24 Firestop Pillow – 2 in x 4 in x 9 in

SpecSeal SSB24 is a lightweight, intumescent firestop pillow for sealing medium to large openings with mixed services. Each pillow compresses and stacks easily in a brick-like fashion, then expands under fire exposure to help block flame, smoke, and hot gases. The durable, heat-sealed outer bag resists unraveling, supports clean installations, and allows fast retrofit without damaging the seal.

Key Features

  • Intumescent core expands in all directions for a tight, resilient seal.
  • Reinstallable design enables easy cable adds, moves, and changes.
  • Monolithic encapsulated core – no loose fill, no irritating fiberglass.
  • Heat-sealed, fire-retardant poly bag for strength and clean handling.
  • Excellent air-leakage performance; supports smoke control objectives.
  • No special tools required; lightweight for fast installation.
  • Listed systems provide up to 4-hour ratings (construction dependent).

Applications

  • Mixed-service openings containing cables, conduits, pipes, and trays.
  • Data/communications backbones, power/control cables, and bus ducts.
  • Gypsum, concrete, CMU, and tilt-up walls; concrete floors (per listings).
  • One-sided shaft walls or restricted access conditions.
  • Retrofits where frequent re-entry is expected without damaging the seal.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I size the opening?
Compress and stack pillows to fill the opening with uniform pressure; add mesh or retaining hardware as required by the listed system.

Can I retrofit cables later?
Yes. Remove the retaining mesh (if present), take out only the pillows needed, add or remove services, then restack pillows to restore compression.

What fire ratings are possible?
Listed systems provide up to 4 hours depending on wall/floor construction, opening size, and services.

Any compatibility concerns?
The product is designed for use with many plastics and cable jackets. For unusual materials, confirm with the pipe or cable manufacturer.

How often should I inspect the seal?
Periodically check for damage or permanent over-compression and replace pillows as needed to maintain pressure in the seal.
