Avanti AV-219 Fibrotite Oakum Rope 2 ft Section - Box of 25

Avanti AV-219 Fibrotite is a strong fibrous jute rope, free of oils and tars, intended for use with polyurethane grouts in the Expanded Gasket Placement (EGP) technique. It acts as a carrier that keeps resin in place where grout alone would run out: vertical wall joints, overhead cracks and joints, and concrete pads. Untwist or cut the rope into smaller strands, saturate them in a urethane grout such as AV-202 Multigrout, and pack them into the crack, joint or defect with a blunt tool such as a screwdriver; the strands absorb and react with the water present. The tightly twisted jute allows minimal compression, and it can be used in large or small joints, in place of or with joint gaskets in large sewer and storm water lines, and around slip liners.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is AV-219 Fibrotite oakum used for?
It is a carrier for polyurethane grout. Saturated with a grout such as AV-202 Multigrout, it holds the resin in cracks and joints where grout alone would not stay, such as vertical wall joints, overhead cracks and concrete pads, and it can replace or work with joint gaskets in large sewer and storm water lines.

How is oakum installed with grout?
AV-219 is used with the Expanded Gasket Placement (EGP) technique; the full EGP manual can be downloaded at avantigrout.com. Untwist or cut the rope into smaller strands, dip them in a urethane grout such as AV-202 Multigrout and saturate them thoroughly, then place them with a blunt object such as a screwdriver.

What if water is flowing through the crack?
With heavy water flow, place the grout-saturated oakum directly into the crack, joint or defect. The grout-soaked strands absorb and react with the water present.

What if the crack is dry?
If there is little or no water, spray water into the area first. Then submerge the grout-saturated strands in water for 5-10 seconds and place them with a blunt object; they continue to absorb and react with the water present.

What sizes are available?
The small box holds twenty-five 2 ft (0.60 m) sections and the large box holds seven 100 ft (30.5 m) sections. Sections are about 1 inch (2.5 cm) in diameter and can be used in large or small joints and cracks.

Is Fibrotite regulated for shipping?
No. AV-219 is dry jute free of oils and tars, and the data sheet lists it as not regulated under US DOT regulations. Wear OSHA-approved PPE and see the SDS for handling.
