Choose cement grout by application

Cement grout can support equipment, structural members, anchors and repairs when the product and installation meet the project requirements. Start with the specification and the supported load, then check consistency, clearance, depth, temperature, exposure and curing.

Application or product typeWhat to confirmExamples in this category
General structural and non-shrink supportColumn and bearing plates, anchors, precast connections and void filling. Confirm ASTM C1107 or the specified standard, mix consistency, required strength, placement depth and curing.SikaGrout 212, Euclid NS Grout, Dayton 1107
High-flow precision and deep poursFlow path, minimum clearance, pumpability, effective bearing area and permitted lift. Deep placements may require a product-specific aggregate extension or technical consultation.SikaGrout 350, Euclid Hi-Flow, Five Star High Strength 130
Metallic, high-load and high-temperature serviceImpact, repetitive or thermal movement, operating temperature and product-specific curing. Metallic aggregate and elevated-temperature claims are formulation-specific.SikaGrout 885 MF, Euclid Hi-Flow Metallic, Five Star HTR
Underwater, tidal and marine restorationUse a product explicitly formulated for underwater or tidal placement. Confirm anti-washout behavior, tremie or pump method, water temperature, confinement and exposed-surface curing.SikaGrout 500 Aqua, Euco Tremie Grout, Five Star Underwater High-Strength
Cable, tendon and grout-admixture workFor post-tensioning ducts, follow the specified PTI and corrosion-protection requirements. An admixture changes a Portland-cement grout mix and is not a finished grout bag.Five Star Special Grout 400, Sika Intraplast N

Published strength, yield and working-time values are meaningful only with their stated test method, consistency, temperature, cure age and unit. Use the current product datasheet before approving a substitution.

Field planning

Plan the cement grout installation

Professional installations depend on the relationship between the supported component, the prepared substrate and the grout placement method. Use the manufacturer instructions with the project specification.

Equipment baseplates and load transfer

Pumps, motors, compressors, generators, tanks and other equipment need full bearing contact beneath the plate. Check static or dynamic loading, vibration, thermal movement, bolt and shear details, and the equipment manufacturer’s grout requirement.

Cement grout can serve equipment support where the selected product meets those requirements. For demanding chemical or dynamic service, compare the specified cement and epoxy systems on the parent Grouts page.

Flow, clearance and placement depth

Fluid, flowable, plastic and dry-pack consistencies affect pumpability, bearing contact and compressive strength. Measure the clearance and volume before choosing a product, and follow its maximum neat depth and aggregate-extension instructions.

Do not assume a high-flow product is a deep-pour product. SikaGrout 350 is published for deep sections; other products require aggregate or manufacturer consultation at different thresholds.

Underwater, thermal and chemical exposure

Use dedicated underwater or tidal products where water displacement and washout control are required. Use product-specific high-temperature formulations for kilns, cokers, foundries or thermal cycling, and verify the cure and heat ramp before service.

Cement-based products differ in sulfate, chloride, marine and chemical guidance. Check the current product datasheet and specification instead of applying a category-wide resistance claim.

Preparation, curing and quantity

Most sheets call for sound, clean, roughened contact surfaces, saturated-surface-dry concrete, liquid-tight forms and a continuous placement from one side. Over-watering, trapped air, delayed placement and inadequate curing can change the result.

Use the exact bag yield and allowed consistency for the takeoff. Include pockets, shoulders, waste and any approved aggregate extension; bag counts are not interchangeable across products.

Before you order

Cement grout specifications & quantity planning

Use the project specification and the selected manufacturer data to confirm the performance, quantity and documents required for the installation.

Compare the specified performance

Read compressive strength alongside test method, cure age, temperature and mix consistency. Also review flow, bearing contact, creep, thermal movement, exposure, minimum clearance and placement depth.

Calculate bags and yield

Measure the actual grout volume, add a practical allowance, divide by the published yield of the exact bag and consistency, then round up to whole units. Confirm whether aggregate extension changes the yield or water requirement.

Assemble the submittal

Identify the manufacturer, product, bag size and SKU. Gather the current product datasheet, installation instructions, SDS and any compliance documentation requested by the project. Ask for technical help when a document or limit is unclear.

Cement grout questions

What is cement grout used for?

Cement grout is used to fill and support defined spaces around equipment baseplates, columns, bearing plates, anchors, precast connections and other structural components when the selected product meets the project requirements. Product-specific placement and curing instructions control.

What is non-shrink cement grout?

It is a hydraulic-cement grout formulated to compensate for volume change during placement and hardening under its specified test conditions. Review the product’s consistency, standard, placement limits and curing instructions rather than relying on the label alone.

Can cement grout be used under machinery?

Yes, many products in this category are published for machinery bases and equipment support. Confirm the equipment loading, vibration, thermal movement, clearance, grout depth and required return-to-service properties with the specification and manufacturer data.

Which cement grout is suitable for underwater work?

Use a product explicitly formulated for underwater or tidal placement, such as the dedicated products linked in the selection table. Confirm the tremie or pumping method, anti-washout guidance, water conditions and confinement. Ordinary non-shrink grout is not automatically an underwater grout.

How many bags of cement grout do I need?

Calculate the required volume from the placement dimensions, include a reasonable allowance, divide by the exact product’s published yield at the required consistency and round up. Bag weights and yields vary; an admixture is not a finished grout bag.
