Choose the right Adhesives Technology product

ATC builds several distinct product families under one brand. Start with the job — anchoring, doweling, crack injection, surface repair, joint filling, machine grouting or floor densifying — then confirm the approval, substrate condition, temperature range and cure time the specification requires.

Job or product familyWhat to confirmExamples in this brand
Code-compliant anchoring and dowelingThreaded rod and rebar in cracked or uncracked concrete under IBC/IRC. Confirm the current ICC-ES evaluation report, hole condition, base material and installation temperature, cure schedule, embedment, and hole-cleaning method before ordering.Ultrabond HS-1CC, Ultrabond HYB-2CC, Ultrabond EPX-3CC, Ultrabond ACRYL-8CC
DOT and high-volume dowelingHighway, bridge and infrastructure dowel work. Confirm the state DOT approval for the exact product, working time at the job temperature, mix ratio, and whether the adhesive will be dispensed from cartridges or a bulk pump.Ultrabond 1, Ultrabond 2, Ultrabond NS 1300, Ultrabond 1300 bulk
Structural crack injection and bondingCrack width and orientation decide the viscosity; port spacing and a capping paste decide whether the injection holds pressure. Separate bonding fresh concrete to hardened concrete from structural injection — they are different products.Crackbond 2100MV, Crackbond 2300 GEL, Crack-Kit, surface mount ports
Surface, spall and general repairConfirm cure speed and return-to-service time, whether the repair is vertical or overhead (non-sag required), and the application temperature range. Rapid-cure hybrids and repair pastes serve different repairs.Crackbond CSR, Crackbond Epoxy Repair Paste, Miracle Bond 1310
Joint filling and deck overlaysFor control joints, confirm joint width, expected movement, traffic type and service temperature — polyurea fillers support hard-wheel traffic, not expansion joints. For overlays, confirm cross-section, placement temperature and traffic window.Crackbond JF-82 Fast, Crackbond Bridge-Gard kits
Epoxy machine grout and floor treatmentsFor baseplate grouting, confirm bearing area, clearance and pour depth, exotherm and placement temperature. For floors, confirm whether the slab is fresh or existing, polished or sealed, and which finish the specification calls for.Accugrout HD, Accugrout LE, Pentra-Sil (HD), SlabArmor Starter, Pentra-Finish (HG)

Published strength, cure and temperature values apply only at the stated test conditions, mix ratio and cure age. Use the current ATC technical data sheet and evaluation report for the exact product before approving a substitution. The brand also includes The Cracker, a non-explosive concrete demolition agent.

Field planning

Plan the installation

Anchoring and repair results depend on the relationship between the specified design, the condition of the hole or substrate, and the temperature at the time of placement. Use the manufacturer instructions together with the project specification and the engineer's anchor design.

Anchor design and code compliance

Code-compliant anchoring depends on whether the concrete is treated as cracked or uncracked, the embedment depth, edge distance and spacing, and the evaluation report that covers the product. Ultrabond HS-1CC, HYB-2CC, EPX-3CC and ACRYL-8CC are assessed for use in cracked and uncracked concrete under ACI 355.4 and ICC-ES AC308.

The engineer of record sets embedment and load values. ATC publishes Pro Anchor Design software and current evaluation reports; check that the report version matches what the specification cites, and that the product carries the state DOT approval when the job is transportation work.

Temperature, cure time and return to service

Installation temperature usually decides the product. Ultrabond HYB-2CC is published for application in temperatures down to 23 °F with full cure in 30 minutes at 70 °F. Ultrabond EPX-3CC has a published installation range of 48 °F to 108 °F and full cure in four hours at 93 °F. Ultrabond ACRYL-8CC reaches full cure in 45 minutes at 70 °F.

Overlays and coatings have narrower windows. Crackbond Bridge-Gard is applied and cured between 65 °F and 95 °F and opens to traffic in under three hours at 75 °F. Confirm cure schedules on the current data sheet for the temperature you will actually see on site.

Hole condition, substrate and preparation

Dry, damp, water-filled and submerged holes are not interchangeable. Ultrabond HS-1CC is published for all four conditions and is NSF/ANSI 61 certified for potable water contact; other adhesives are limited to dry or damp holes. Hole cleaning — brushing, blowing and the number of cycles — is part of the tested installation, not an optional step.

For repairs, confirm the substrate is sound, clean and profiled. Bonding agents such as Crackbond 2100MV and 2300 GEL are for bonding fresh concrete to hardened concrete; crack injection resins and repair pastes address existing cracks and spalls instead.

Cartridges, bulk and dispensing

Mix ratios differ across the line — Ultrabond HS-1CC, EPX-3CC, Ultrabond 1 and Ultrabond 2 use a 1:1 ratio, while ACRYL-8CC uses 10:1 by volume. Each cartridge size needs the matching dispensing tool and static mixers, and a fresh mixer must be primed for each start.

Bulk dispensing has its own requirement: Ultrabond 1300 is formulated non-sag and non-abrasive specifically so it runs through bulk pumps without accelerating wear. Order mixers, nozzles and tools with the adhesive so a crew is not waiting on a consumable.

Before you order

Specifications, quantities and submittals

Use the project specification and current ATC data to confirm the approval, the quantity and the documents the job requires before the order goes in.

Confirm the specified approval

Check the exact product name and the approval the specification cites — ICC-ES report number, state DOT authorized materials list, NSF/ANSI 61 where potable water is involved, or ASTM C881 type, grade and class for bonding and overlay work.

Estimate cartridges and coverage

For anchors, calculate annular volume from hole diameter, anchor diameter and embedment, then add waste for priming and partial holes. For coatings and densifiers, use the published coverage rate for the surface porosity and finish, then round up to whole units.

Assemble the submittal

Gather the current technical data sheet, SDS, evaluation report or DOT approval letter, and any installer instructions the specification requires. Ask for technical help when a published limit or document is unclear — it is cheaper than a failed pull test.

Adhesives Technology questions

What does Adhesives Technology make?

Adhesives Technology Corporation (ATC) is a U.S. manufacturer of construction adhesives in epoxies, urethanes, acrylics, ester blends and polyureas. Its brands include Ultrabond anchoring and doweling adhesives, Crackbond concrete repair, injection and joint products, Miracle Bond repair epoxy, Accugrout epoxy grouts and Convergent concrete densifiers and floor treatments. ATC is a Meridian Adhesives Group company.

Which Ultrabond anchoring epoxy should I use?

It depends on the code approval, temperature and speed the job needs. HS-1CC is the high-strength option published for dry, damp, water-filled and submerged holes. HYB-2CC is a hybrid for cold weather and fast turnarounds, published down to 23 °F with full cure in 30 minutes at 70 °F. EPX-3CC is the value-optimized high-volume epoxy with a 48 °F to 108 °F installation range. ACRYL-8CC is a styrene-free vinylester system that reaches full cure in 45 minutes at 70 °F. Confirm the current evaluation report against the specification before ordering.

Can anchoring epoxy be installed in cold weather?

Some products can. Ultrabond HYB-2CC is published for application in temperatures down to 23 °F, and ATC's ASF cold-weather acrylic adhesives extend lower still. Both the base material temperature and the adhesive temperature matter, and cure times lengthen as temperature drops. Check the product's published temperature range and cure schedule rather than assuming an epoxy will cure in cold conditions.

Can epoxy anchors be installed in damp or water-filled holes?

Only where the product is published for it. Ultrabond HS-1CC is formulated for dry, damp, water-filled and submerged applications; other anchoring adhesives are limited to dry or damp holes. Hole cleaning requirements are usually different for wet installations, and the manufacturer's instructions are part of the tested condition.

How much anchoring epoxy do I need?

Estimate the annular volume of each hole from the hole diameter, the rod or rebar diameter and the embedment depth, multiply by the anchor count, then add an allowance for priming each static mixer and for partial holes. Cartridge yields vary by size and product, so calculate against the published yield for the exact cartridge you are buying.

What is Crackbond CSR used for?

Crackbond CSR is a two-component polyurethane hybrid with very low viscosity and a rapid cure, used for quick repairs of cracks and spalls in concrete. For deeper structural crack repair, epoxy injection resins with ports and a capping paste are the usual approach; for vertical and overhead patching, a non-sag repair paste or Miracle Bond is the better fit.

Which product fills control joints in an industrial floor?

Crackbond JF-82 Fast is a rapid-curing, self-leveling polyurea control joint filler designed for heavy traffic and freezer applications, published to accommodate roughly 10 to 15 percent movement of the installed joint width. Polyurea and semi-rigid epoxy joint fillers support the joint edges against hard-wheel traffic; they are not expansion joint sealants. Confirm joint width, movement and service temperature before choosing.

What does a Convergent lithium silicate densifier do?

Convergent products penetrate the concrete surface and react with free calcium to form insoluble calcium silicate hydrate, which hardens the slab, reduces dusting and improves abrasion and stain resistance while keeping the surface breathable. Different formulas serve different stages: Pentra-Sil (HD) and (H) for hardening existing or new slabs, Pentra-Sil (IH) during polishing, SlabArmor Starter as a colloidal silica curing and finishing aid, and Pentra-Finish (HG) as a high-gloss sealer.
