Choosing grout for equipment and structural support
Industrial grout fills the space between a concrete foundation and supported equipment or structural components, providing bearing and transferring loads. Start with the project specification, then check the grout’s flow, placement limits and performance under the intended service conditions.

Both grout types have equipment-support applications. Compare the specified performance and installation conditions; compressive strength alone does not establish suitability.
Machinery baseplates & precision alignment
Pumps, compressors, generators, motors and processing equipment require dependable support beneath their baseplates. Grout selection should account for bearing contact, sustained loading, vibration and the equipment manufacturer’s requirements.
Five Star DP Epoxy Grout, SikaFlow 648 and Euclid E3 Flowable are examples with published machinery-grouting applications. Flow distance and clearance help determine which specified product can be placed effectively.
Deep pours & foundation rebuilds
Deep sections introduce placement and heat-management requirements beyond those of a thin gap beneath a plate. Select a grout with an appropriate permitted pour depth and installation procedure.
Five Star XP 230 and SikaFlow 678 address deep placements. Standard Unisorb V-100 serves thinner machine-support placements. Use the exact product datasheet to establish limits and any required manufacturer consultation.
Structural bearing & anchoring
Column baseplates, precast connections, bearing plates and anchor installations call for the specified load transfer, dimensional stability and placement consistency.
Five Star Grout, Fluid Grout 100, SikaGrout 928, SikaGrout 328 and Euclid Hi-Flow cover a range of these applications. Cementitious grout can also support machinery where it meets the equipment and project requirements.
Plant shutdowns & operating conditions
Paper mills, oil and gas facilities, power plants and data centers with on-site generation can combine heavy equipment, process exposure and demanding installation schedules.
Check operating temperature and chemical exposure separately from placement temperature. Coordinate strength development and equipment loading with the shutdown schedule; working time, initial set and readiness for service are different milestones.

Grout specifications & quantity planning
Use the project specification and the selected grout’s current manufacturer data to confirm performance, calculate quantities and assemble the required submittal.
Compare grout specifications
Read compressive strength alongside the test method, cure age, temperature and mix consistency. For equipment grouting, also review specified bearing contact, stiffness, creep and exposure requirements. Confirm that placement depth and flow suit the installation; products with similar strength values can have different limitations.
Calculate bags & complete kits
Determine grout volume from the placement dimensions, including pockets, shoulders and an appropriate allowance. Divide by the published yield of the exact bag or complete epoxy grout kit, then round up to whole units. Cementitious consistency, kit configuration and manufacturer-approved aggregate extension can affect yield.
Prepare product submittals
Identify the exact manufacturer, product and unit configuration. Gather the current product datasheet, installation instructions, safety data and any supporting documentation required by the project. Check the specification’s acceptance criteria and loading requirements before ordering. Ask for assistance if a required document is missing.

Industrial grout questions
When should I use epoxy grout instead of cementitious grout?
Follow the equipment and project specification. Epoxy grout is often specified where dynamic loading, chemical exposure or other demanding conditions call for its particular properties. Cementitious products also serve machinery and structural applications. Compare loading, flow, placement dimensions, temperature and curing requirements before proposing a substitution.
Does a higher compressive strength mean a better equipment grout?
Not by itself. The grout must meet the equipment’s support, exposure and installation requirements. Use the specification comparison guidance above when reviewing published values.
Can the same grout be used for a narrow gap and a deep pour?
Only when both placements fall within that product’s approved limits. For example, the reviewed XP 230 conventional-grouting datasheet gives a 2–36 inch placement range, while Standard Unisorb V-100 has much thinner placement limits. Follow all stated conditions and obtain manufacturer guidance where the datasheet calls for it.
How do I calculate the number of grout bags or kits?
Divide the required volume, including your allowance, by the yield of the exact bag or complete kit and round up. See quantity planning above for the details to confirm.
How soon can equipment return to service?
Use the project’s required grout properties and the manufacturer’s loading instructions at the actual curing temperature. An initial set time or a published laboratory strength at 24 hours is not an automatic authorization to start equipment. Some products also specify a minimum modulus before final bolt torque and operation.
