Sylmasta Liquid Metal (PBS) is a low-viscosity metal-filled epoxy coating that seals steel and other metals against corrosion and chemical attack. How is Sylmasta Liquid Metal mixed and brushed on?
Surfaces must be dry, grease-free, cleaned, and roughened for adhesion. Mix 5 parts resin to 1 part hardener by weight, or 3 parts resin to 1 part hardener by volume; whole kits ship Part A and Part B in the correct ratio so hardener can go straight into the resin container. Mix until streak free and uniform. Brush each coat 0.5-1.0 mm thick and apply at least two coats for a pinhole-free finish. Recoat after approximately 4-8 hours. Regular PBS gel time is 90 minutes; tack free around four hours; functional cure in about 24 hours at 22°C (full cure 24-48 hours per Technical Data). Wear eye protection and rubber or plastic coated gloves, and follow the Safety Data Sheet.
Can Sylmasta Liquid Metal be used under SylWrap pipe repair bandages?
Yes. For pipe reinforcement, Liquid Metal is used as a corrosion-resistant coating and as a load-transfer layer applied before overwrapping with SylWrap pipe repair bandages. That combination helps protect the substrate and spreads load into the bandage wrap on leaking or weakened pipe.
What hardness, strength, and service temperature does cured Sylmasta Liquid Metal reach?
Per the Liquid Metal TDS, Shore D hardness is greater than 80 at full cure (24 hours). Typical strengths are tensile 28 MPa, compressive 59 MPa, and flexural 58 MPa. Heat distortion is 50°C when cured at room temperature and 117°C when post-cured. Maximum service temperature is 150°C; to reach maximum heat resistance, cure 24 hours at room temperature, then heat at 80°C for 2 hours and 150°C for 3 hours before cooling, per the TDS post-cure schedule.
