Ceilcote EJ-3 Elastomeric Joint Sealant 1 Gal

Ceilcote EJ-3 is a two-component, pourable polysulfide elastomer for chemical-resistant sealing of horizontal joints in concrete, tile, and brick floors. It cures to a tight-fitting synthetic rubber that keeps out water and many aggressive chemical solutions.

  • Accommodates cyclic joint movement (keep design elongation within 25%)
  • Excellent resistance to water and salts; good vs dilute acids, alkalis, and many solvents
  • Pourable heavy liquid for horizontal control and expansion joints

Ceilcote EJ-3 Pourable Polysulfide Elastomeric Joint Sealant, 1 Gallon

This 1 gallon unit (3.785 L) of Ceilcote EJ-3 is the pourable pack for crews closing a limited run of horizontal joints, repair days, and smaller chemical-area floors that do not need a 5 gallon kit. Ceilcote EJ-3 is a two-component polysulfide elastomer. After cure it is a tight-fitting synthetic rubber that seals out water and many aggressive chemical solutions. Typical work is control and expansion joints in concrete, tile, monolithic, and acid-proof brick floors in chemical environments. Flexibility is meant for cyclic movement. Joint layout should keep elongation within 25% during temperature extremes. Adhesion is good to concrete, steel, and other common construction materials. Elongation is 200% (ASTM D-412) and hardness is Shore A 30-35. Service temperature is -50°F to 200°F. For long joint campaigns and plant shutdowns, use the Ceilcote EJ-3 5 gallon elastomeric joint sealant. Ceilcote EJ10 trowel composite joint sealant is a different rubberized-asphalt compound, not another pack size of EJ-3.

Key Features

  • Two-component, pourable polysulfide elastomer that cures to a tight-fitting synthetic rubber.
  • Flexibility to accommodate cyclic joint movement; design joints so elongation stays within 25%.
  • Good adhesion to concrete, steel, and other common construction materials.
  • Water and salt resistance rated excellent; dilute acids, alkalis, and many solvents rated good.
  • Not for chlorinated solvents, ketones, or acetates.
  • Elongation 200% (ASTM D-412) and Shore A hardness 30-35 (ASTM D-2240).
  • Tensile strength 180 psi (1.24 MPa) per ASTM D 412.
  • Service temperature -50°F to 200°F (-45°C to 93°C).
  • Heavy-liquid (pourable) consistency for horizontal joints. Manufacturer trowel grade EJ-4 is a different pack for vertical and overhead work.
  • Used with CEILCOTE EJ3/EJ4 Primer and Ceilcote #2 Hardener (organic peroxide).

Applications

  • Sealing joints in concrete, tile, monolithic, and acid-proof brick floors.
  • Control and expansion joints.
  • Chemical environments where a polysulfide joint seal is specified.
  • Horizontal joints only. EJ-3 is a heavy liquid, not a paste caulk.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the 1 gallon unit compare to the 5 gallon unit?
The 1 gallon unit (3.785 L) is the same pourable Ceilcote EJ-3 polysulfide as the 5 gallon unit (18.92 L). Use 1 gallon for limited joint runs and repair days. Step up to the Ceilcote EJ-3 5 gallon elastomeric joint sealant when the floor campaign is larger.

What chemicals does Ceilcote EJ-3 resist?
The TDS rates water and salts excellent, and dilute acids, alkalis, and many solvents good. Exceptions are chlorinated solvents, ketones, and acetates. Treat the table as a guide and confirm the specific chemical with Ceilcote.

What is the working time and cure?
At 75°F (24°C), working time is 30-60 minutes. Joints are open to traffic in 24 hours and fully cured in 72 hours. Primer must be tack-free, about 20 minutes at 73°F (23°C), before placing sealant.

How much joint movement can it take?
Design joints so sealant elongation stays within 25% during extreme temperature change. Elongation capacity is 200% (ASTM D-412). Best joint shape is sealant depth equal to one-half the joint width, and depth should not exceed width.

Is Ceilcote EJ10 the same sealant in another size?
No. Ceilcote EJ10 trowel composite joint sealant is a two-part rubberized-asphalt compound for joints, cracks, and Ceilcote floor expansion joints. EJ-3 is a pourable polysulfide for horizontal chemical-resistant joints.

Does EJ-3 need a primer?
Yes. Prime joint walls with CEILCOTE EJ3/EJ4 Primer after abrasive blasting and placing a non-bonding backing material. If sealant is not placed within 24 hours of priming, re-prime the joint.
