How does this Nord-Lock pair keep a bolt from loosening?
Each pair has cams on one side and serrations on the other. When you tighten, the serrations embed. The cam angle is greater than the thread pitch, so any loosening motion has to climb the cams, which increases clamp load instead of letting the bolt unwind.
Do I use one pair or two?
Tapped holes and studs take one pair under the 3/4 in bolt head or nut. Through holes take two pairs: one under the head and one under the nut. Close the cams on both pairs before you apply torque.
When should I use the oversized (SP) washer instead?
