Tremco Vulkem 116 Almond 10oz Cartridge

Tremco Vulkem 116 is a textured, single-component, moisture-curing, gun-grade polyurethane sealant for general-purpose construction use. It is a durable, flexible sealant intended for poured and precast concrete, masonry work, window and door perimeters and similar construction joints, and Tremco cites a 30-year history of primerless adhesion to porous substrates in sealing expansion joints in commercial construction. It is rated for ±25% movement capability (ASTM C719) for dynamic joints and is suitable for certain water immersion applications. Cure can be accelerated with Vulkem Catalyst 45/116 as needed. Vulkem 116 is approved for exterior use only: do not use it inside an occupied building, even if no occupants are present during use. Do not apply it over damp, green or contaminated surfaces, and do not use it in chlorinated, potable, heavy or waste water.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much joint movement does Vulkem 116 handle?
It is rated for ±25% movement capability under ASTM C719 and meets ASTM C920 Type S, Grade NS, Class 25, Use T, NT, M, A, I class II and O. Tensile strength is 200 to 250 psi and elongation 200 to 300% (ASTM D412).

Does Vulkem 116 need a primer?
Tremco cites a 30-year history of primerless adhesion to porous substrates, which is why it is used for sealing expansion joints in commercial construction. Adhesion is 20 to 25 pli on concrete and 19 to 23 pli on brick (ASTM C794). The current data sheet gives no priming instructions for other substrates.

How long does Vulkem 116 take to cure?
Skin time is 6 hours (ASTM C679), and it is tack-free in 30 hours at 73.4°F (23°C) and 50% RH. Cure can be accelerated with Vulkem Catalyst 45/116 as needed.

What standards and approvals does Vulkem 116 meet?
It meets or exceeds ASTM C920 Type S, Grade NS, Class 25, Use T, NT, M, A, I class II and O; U.S. Federal Specification TT-S-00230C, Class A, Type II; CAN/CGSB-19.13-M87; USDA regulation for indirect food contact; Canadian Food Inspection Agency; and City of Los Angeles (COLA) approval standards.

Where should Vulkem 116 not be used?
It is approved for exterior use only; do not use it inside an occupied building, even if no occupants are present during use. Do not apply it over damp, green or contaminated surfaces. It is suitable for certain water immersion applications, but not for chlorinated, potable, heavy or waste water.

Can Vulkem 116 be painted?
It is paintable, but that does not imply adhesion to and compatibility with all paints; Tremco refers to Technical Bulletin No. S-09-05. This listing is the Almond 10.1 oz (300 mL) cartridge; the other colors are listed separately.
